So, when we moved in to our place a year and a half ago, we bought some quick, cheap outdoor furniture. (our last place had outdoor furniture already) We're a resto/harvest indoors and Target outdoors kind of household. I'd like to upgrade the patio furniture a bit, since it seems like we'll get to stay here for another year or two at least.

The rub though is that I have a huge hang up about paying a lot of money for stuff that will A) live outdoors and B) will be used maybe 20 times a year. Plus, we're going to be renting for the next 3-4 years, so I don't want to go all out on something that may end up not fitting at our next place.

So- has anyone managed to crack the secret code to find nice patio furniture without spending as much money as you paid for your indoor furniture?

Go to places like Home Depot and Lowes and look at the stuff they have there, and then find it on wayfair and get it a lot cheaper.

Regardless of your income bracket, nice outdoor furniture is ridiculously pricey. It is, however, much longer lasting than cheaper alternatives.

Steal it from other peoples yards. It isn't locked indoors.

OMG Wayfair. It's got some decent stuff here, and the price range seems a heck of a lot more reasonable than most of what I've seen out there.

yay!! Thank you!

I don't believe there's much of a middle ground when it comes to patio furniture. It's typically either really cheap or really expensive. You might consider looking at Offer Up/Let Go to see if anyone locally is getting rid of nicer sets for cheaper prices. Other than that, I've found that buying somewhat cheap and replacing often is not a bad way to go.

Have your boyfriend make you some.

I have tons of patio furniture. Some from Wayfair, but most of it is from estate sales. You can get some really great stuff from dead people's houses.

That lack of a middle ground is totally the problem. I pushed my boyfriend to buy the cheap temp stuff when we got in, but it's just ugly and uncomfortable. He's out there more than I am, and so I feel bad that he hates it so much. I said it was me who wanted to replace it, but actually it's mostly him.

The real issue is that when he suggested buying a $3k patio set, I flipped out on him and insisted we could get stuff just as nice for 1/3 of the price.

Unfortunately, that sort of got me saddled with the responsibility for finding us a new patio set. So winning that argument suddenly feels a whole lot like losing.

craigslist and garage sales i've gotten 70 inch flatscreens with minor cosmetic cracks for 200

I love my boyfriend, but he's got some "germophobic" tendencies (i.e. he's a snob about used furniture). I suggested craigslist, and he turned blue.

We've had good luck with Big Lots. A step above WalMart, a step below Home Depot, and the stuff has lasted a few years of heavy use with no noticeable damage.

I bought my outdoor furniture from Wayfair this year and paid a fraction of the cost. I apparently won a $500 wayfair credit for reviewing something else I'd bought. Huzzah. Also, be careful some of their stuff goes out of stock, then comes back in stock at $200-300 more, depending on demand.

1) That's awesome that you won that

2) That's two votes for Wayfair, so that's more than enough for me.

I actually found a few sets to show my boyfriend- thanks for the help folks! I'll pour each of you a drink when we break the new set in.

...then I'll drink them.

It's probably a safe bet, we all know poor people have cooties.

Three votes for Wayfair. I have purchased furniture and massage equipment from them. Always good quality and fast, free shipping!

Did... you say massage equipment?

How do I convince my boyfriend to invest in that?

Inform him that every massage ends "happy."
