It happens... it's why my (most) of my characters tend to stay away from those who speak like that... primarily because they just can't stand dealing with them. I do have one character who I've purposely made speak common horribly for the sake of RP... but it's also because I've played her to still be learning common and Elven. Anyone who tries to speak anything to her besides Sylvan or cleric ("the holy tongue") gets a confused look. Most understand the little common she does try to speak, though, so it works out.

Isn't there a tone or a language you can set to 'broken'? I always liked the idea behind that but it might be restricted to altoids.

Aelotoi used to speak in broken common, but that junk is gone now. I thought there was a way that aelotoi could set it back to that, but the Aelotoi article doesn't mention it. I don't see broken listed under tones either.
