I think the Colts have the better chance to do so. I can easily see Indy beating New England in a shootout, and I'm not sure that the Jets will lose to Pittsburgh, to be honest.

As far as their opponent in the Superbowl, ehh....Anything is possible, I suppose.

Edited to say I personally thought the Chargers would have easily beaten the Jets, so take this with a grain of salt.

I'm in New York and can honestly say the Jets will get destroyed by Pittsburgh.

Stunseed
01-09-2005, 05:43 PM
The Jets gave them all sorts of problems in their last meeting....I'm not sure that the Steelers can make the right adjustments to stop some blaring mismatches that would occur.

Or the Steelers could blow the Jets out of the water so bad that the Jets relocate to Maine or something.

Kefka
01-09-2005, 05:47 PM
I'm thinking it's the latter. Just like last night's game, the Jets are just as capable of killing themselves.

Honestly, I've never heard of someone being a Giants and Yankees fan. "Blue is blue, and the Yankees suck" is probably the only thing I'd ever get tattooed on me, except for it's common knowledge.

For Sergey: no one ever came back from 0-3. No .500 team ever won a playoff game. Peyton Manning is having one of the best seasons evar. But please, take comfort in your statistics. I hope they provide you with solace once the Peyn Train is mercifully done running through New England.

I can see the Colts/NE game just being a pure shootout. I think Colts will have a lot to prove and come out ready to play and upset the pats. Doesn't matter though cause Pitt is going all the way this year. Oh.. and of course the Bears in '06.

Indy beats Atlanta in the Super Bowl.

Keller has it almost right, except Pittsburgh will beat the Jets and in turn get beat by Indy.

Eagles will beat Minnesota only to continue their NFC championship tradition.

Filthydelphia is going down the Hotlanta. Hard.

I would say you might be correct.. if New England's pass defense wasn't hurt. But it is.

Manning won't have his best QB day ever.. but it will be right up there. It will be a shootout with the Colts defense coming up big late in the game.

Colts 38 - New England 28

New England has owned Indy (see Mannings record vs. Pats above)

New England hasn't lost a home game in over two years

New England under Belichick is 6-0 in the playoffs.

Indy plays in a dome, gonna be cold in New England this weekend.

If it weren't for the secondary injuries, Indy would have very little chance of winning. The door is there to buck the odds. However, New England will find a way to win.

The Patriots BARELY got by the Colts in week 1 and that was with a injury free team. Ty Law is out.. so there goes their most capable corner.

In their last meeting, Patriots were unable to stop the run (James 4.7 yds per carry) while the Colts limited Dillon to 86 yards (38 on 1 carry.. take that out and you have 3.5 yards per carry) New England had to rely on Brady's arm to win the game.. and he delivered.

Patriots are rusty while the Colts look like they are hitting the playoffs in stride. This spells trouble if you're a Pat fan.

i totally agree with PB on this.

what its going to come down to is that indy is warmed up, and NE isnt. so NE is going to have to really set up and play all 60 min of the game to make it to the next round. normally i'd say that NE would take it no problem (i love the colts, but i still think so), but having an off week is big when their opponent is just rolling over people.

either way, pittsburgh is going to win the SB so it doesnt matter all that much

I think NE is the most "warmed" up team that had a bye this week. I commend them for playing their last game like it mattered. I think of all the 'rusty' teams.. I think the Eagles are really going to show it early on, which is just what the Vikings will need to get a lead. That will force the Eagles to throw the ball.. and without any capable recievers.. bye bye birdies.

For all I care, we can keep BARELY winning. What is important is that we barely WIN. Bottom line: Patriots pile up the wins, they have been piling them up on Indy. Manning is 0-6 in Foxboro (9 TD vs. 16 INT). I don't care if they were all by one point.

It's also a lot colder in December than in September. We ain't playing indoors in the turf.

It's funny more people don't realize defense almost always wins in the playoffs.

The Colts offense could've been an exception just because they were that good, but it was too much.

The Vikes have Culpepper and Moss..... great, their D sucks and they were playing the best defense in the NFC.

I like to call it ESPN hype. People only watch highlights of these big plays throughout the season.

That would make them the third best defense in the NFC. But don't bother letting stats get in the way of being a homer.

TOK, those numbers are based on yards allowed per game. That tells you very little about the defense itself. The Eagles do give up alot of yards per game but look at a column that matters such as points allowed per game and youll find the eagles to be number 2 in the entire NFL.

The list:
#1 Pittsburg - 15.7
#2 New England - 16.2
#2 Philadelphia - 16.2

sure, what the newspapers and ESPN use for their rankings is important to those who watch occasionally on the weekends but those numbers mean jack shit when your team is allowing the second fewest points in the league.

I think the Eagles are really going to show it[rust] early on, which is just what the Vikings will need to get a lead. That will force the Eagles to throw the ball.. and without any capable recievers.. bye bye birdies.

reciever catches yds tds
F. Mitchell 5 65 1
G. Lewis 2 64 0
L. Smith 4 52 0
B. Westbrook 5 47 1
T. Pinkston 3 46 0

That is by yardage.

Last I checked games are decided by points, not yards.

The Eagles were FIRST in points allowed. That is what matters, chief.

Best D in the NFC

#1 Philadelphia - 16.2 pts against a game.
#2 Washington - 16.6
#3 Tampa Bay - 19

And that is with their entire second string playing the final two games of the year.

Both systems are flawed. The best system I have seen is on NFL.com called the "Aikman" rating system. I doubt he came up with it.. but because he is a regular contributor to the site.. he was given the name.

"The Aikman Efficiency Ratings measure offensive and defensive performance using a combination of seven key statistics identified by Troy Aikman, and then measured against league norms (and extremes) established over the last 10 years. An offense or defense performing exactly at league norms in all categories will achieve a score of 75."

Aikman Defensive Efficiency Ratings

Aikman NFL Team AER
1 2 Redskins 83.8
2 7 Ravens 83.7
3 3 Bills 83.4
4 9 Patriots 82.8
5 1 Steelers 81.5
6 10 Eagles 80.5
7 17 Bears 79.6

Best defensive teams does not equal "top" teams. You also have to factor in offense and special teams.

Dumbass.
