View Full Version : A driver's rant

1) Directional signals are required on ALL motor vehicles. Slamming on your brakes and then turning does NOT constitute letting people behind you know your intentions.
2) When you come to an intersection and you have the right of way, it is not NICE of you to wave other drivers through. It actually slows down the traffic at a busy intersection. To the person in the blue Toyota who's license plate says "R DINERO" you are a fucking assbag. Thanks for wasting 4 minutes of my life on 1/6/05.
3) Just because you drive a pimped out white Honda Civic, it does NOT give you the right to drive on the shoulder of a busy expressway 1/2 mile earlier than your turn.
4) PUT DOWN THE FUCKING CELL PHONE IF YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF DOING 2 THINGS AT ONCE.
5) Do not get mad at me if I am already doing 12 miles over the speed limit and you can't pass me on a double yellow lined road. Tailgating will force me to slow down.. don't do it.
6) Certainly, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing the street... but NOT WHEN MY FUCKING LIGHT IS GREEN AND YOU HAVE A BIG FUCKING NO HAND SIGN FACING YOU. And when I do begin to enter the intersection, don't look at me like I'm doing something wrong.
7) What the fuck is up with bums nowadays? With employment at 5%.. you can't tell me there is no way some of you can't get a fucking job instead of holding up a sign that says "I AM A VIETNAM VET AND HAVE BEEN OUT OF WORK FOR 3 YEARS. CAN YOU HELP ME?"
8) Putting on your directional signal to merge into another lane works well when both lanes are moving along at the same pace. It does not work well when your lane is stopped and mine is traveling at 55mph.
9) See # 8.. and reverse it. It does not work well when your lane is traveling at 55mph and you want to get into a lane that is stopped.
10) The white solid lines mean that you should not cross them. I understand your need to get ahead of me at the next exit because you are far more important than I. Dumbass. If you still have that need.. at LEAST merge in gracefully. Stopping traffic in your lane and forcing the front of your car inches away from my front bumper is not graceful.

I used to spend my life in Manhattan traffic screaming charming things like, 'Get your hand off your dick, put it on the steering wheel, and DRIVE YOUR FUCKING CAR!!!!'
One day that came out while my mother was in the car. Turns out there ARE worse things than other drivers. There are moms. :::shudders:::
Kimm
Edited to add, um I meant that they should put their HAND on their steering wheels, not their dick. Unless a person was extraordinarily gifted, I'd imagine that it'd be awfully difficult to drive a car with THAT particular appendage. The dick appendage, that is, not the hand. Oh hell now I'm confusing myself.

12). While driving behind a truck, larger than your vehicle, it is totally smart to tail-gate them in traffic, so that you can slam your brakes on when then stop suddenly, making the entire lane behind you slam on their brakes as well..
Yay for chain reactions

I fucking HATE this. I have gotten into at least three fights with my girl over this shit. She's the kind of shitty driver that, when making a left turn from a main road onto a side road, will let someone on that side road make the left onto the main road first. It's not being polite, it's fucking up the already illogical traffic system that's in place.
<5) Do not get mad at me if I am already doing 12 miles over the speed limit and you can't pass me on a double yellow lined road. Tailgating will force me to slow down.. don't do it. >
You need to be careful with that. You'll both get reckless or careless driving tickets if an officer sees you. Plus, you never really know who you're pissing off behind you. I've seen some pretty psychotic shit happen when people gave tailgaters the brake job.
My pet peeve is during gridlock, when the biggest scumbag drivers in the world come out of the woodwork. Listen, if five lanes of traffic are at a standstill, you don't have the right to drive in the breakdown lane for six miles and merge back in. I'm that guy that wedges my car in between the right lane and the breakdown lane and laughs while people go crazy.

I would challenge any officer in the country to give me a ticket for going the posted speed limit.. and having it stick in a court of law. My issue is that I am already speeding by 12 mph.. and some dickface fuck wants to still tailgate me. That will cause my right foot to slightly let off the gas until my car is travelling at exactly the posted speed limit.. thus pissing him off. I would never slam on the brakes to do it.
#5 Hell yes... I hate that shit like nothing else.
Once I was driving behind this lady in a volvo going exactly the speed limit in the *fast* lane. No problem except for the fact that all the other lanes are going faster than the fast lane. So, I was cool and waited for the middle lane to clear so I could pass her. I do that without honking at her, brighting her or giving her the finger. All of which would have been suitable given the circumastances since she is NOT GOING WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC.
So I finally pass her up and get in front of her going around 5 miles over the limit so I am now going with the flow of traffic and building up a little speed. Not three seconds after I get in front of her she puts her brights on me... lol... I'm like, WTF, no she didn't and then she moves into the middle lane and slows. I slow also because I'm trying to see if she will catch up to me so I can let her know how bogus she is. As slow as I was going she kept slowing down as well in the middle lane because she knew she was wrong. I laughed it off and went on my way. People like that suck when it comes to driving.

That's how my first car got banged up.
Two lane road in each direction. I'm in the right lane - and there's a guy ahead of me in the left hand lane putting on his brakes. I assumed he was taking a left into the parking lot accross the street.
Little did I know he was letting someone coming the opposite direction take a left turn right in front of him .... and me. BAM, I T-boned the fucker and ruined the bumper & hood of my baby. Luckily for me the engine is in the back.

I find the people that piss me off on the road can be broken down into 3 categories
1. the old
2. Women
3. Asians
Or some combo of all 3. I've even convinced my wife (who's actually a decent driver) that an old asian woman is the road equivalent of the anti-christ.

A few years ago during a cold winter evening, I was crossing the road at an intersection. The roads were totally iced up so I was taking only baby steps. The light turned red for me when I was about 3/4 of the way through. I heard a car speed up and turned my head to the right to see a SUV screech to a stop inches from me. The guy was in his early 20's and on the cell phone. He rolled down the passenger window and started yelling obscenities at me (I was done crossing by then) and I ignored him. I go into the grocery store that was on the street corner and as I am in the aisle grabbing my first item, someone comes screaming at me. Yep the jackass actually parked his car on the side of the road and followed me into the grocery store to come yell at me. I was so in shock that I froze in place. When I realized what was happening I got scared that he would punch me so I looked around to see if there was anyone I could call for help. The guy then realized what he was doing and probably figured he could get in trouble for it so he promptly took off.
I take road rage VERY seriously now.
(Also, beware of any driver wearing a hat when cold could not possibly be the reason for wearing it.)

If you mean it doesn't explain why he was so threatening you could possibly be right. I didn't give the full detail of what he was like because I wasn't trying to say a certain type of people cause more road rage but since you bring it up, I'll say more. My impression at the time was that he was high and probably from the stuff he sells himself. His brand new SUV, expensive clothes and jewelry at such a young age plus that crazed unfocused look seemed like good clues. Also the way he so quickly ran away. Since he hadn't hit me, the police really couldn't have done much to him. Unless of course he had something in that SUV he didn't want the cops to see.

He assaulted you. The police would do something about that.
Given the fact that it was complete ice and you were taking your time I understand you being in the road and I, personally, would have let you go without so much as a word. Had it been good roads it would have been a different story.
If it ever happens again and someone follows you into a store to yell at you like that just scream at the top of your lungs. Attention like that tends to end conflicts with assholes like the one in your story.

And also a young person can be successful without selling drugs. I think that's a bad assumption on your part. I have a new car, house, I dress nicely and have several good pieces of jewelery that I often wear and I'm only 23 and last I checked I don't sling weight.

I said it was just an impression. I'm very successful myself and still in my twenties. There was more than just the clothes and the jewelry but regardless of what or who he was, it just scared the hell out of me. I was shaking for a while after it happened.

This happened to my girlfriend as well. She was stopped at a right light waiting to make a right turn and there was one of those signs up that says no turn on red between between 7am -7pm. It was around 6:45am. Some lady is behind her and was getting pissed off that she didnt turn so she gets into the left lane and turns in front of my girls car. My girlfriend then pulls into the grocery store cause that's where she was headed all along and this psycho bitch had stopped a little ways up after my girl turned and backed up and pulled in right after her. She then gets out of her car and follows her into the store and gets nose to nose with her and starts yelling in her face very loudly. She then tells my girl to hit her, she's like, "hit me, I know you want to!" My girl just stood very still cause she was shaken and scared and started yelling for someone to call 911 over and over until finally the store managers ran over and dragged the woman off. She is ranting the entire way saying they dragged her off cause my girl is white and she was black.
I am only glad I was not there that day.

Up in Newfoundland, it snows alot, so there's snowbanks everywhere for 6 months a year... So at an intersection, you have to roll out a bit so you can see if any cars are coming. Well... since there's rarely anybody on the road, people seem to make a habit of rolling through without stopping.... even when there's no snowbanks. I can't even begin to count how many close calls I've had with jackasses doing that. There were 2 accidents in front of our house for that very reason, and we lived on the backstreets!
That's one thing I don't miss about Newfoundland.

I'm not sure about other places, but on Long Island a lot of elderly male drivers wear a certain kind of cap called a 'driving cap'. It's a soft hat, almost like a beret but it has a little brim. They come in a variety of colors and are the exclusive province of old men who drive 10 mph below the speed limit in the left lane with one blinker constantly on.
Whenever I got stuck behind somebody in a driving cap I used to just resign myself to being late.

As far as driving in the snow, here's a rule to live by. If you have doubts about driving in the snow: don't. If you are afraid of driving in the snow: don't. Get someone else to drive you, wait until the roads clear up, or sit your ass home. People who are afraid to drive in inclimate weather cause major accidents by being overly cautious. The same can be said about people who drive like the roads are dry, I guess.

I might be wrong, but i think assault is the act of threatening someone...in which case yelling at her and confronting her is assault. Battery is when you actually attack someone.
If someone followed me into a store I'd be like OMG no you didnt and when they say oh yes i did then I would give them an old fashioned beating...one where i hit them a lot more than they hit me.
I'm still unsure what was meant by the be careful of someone wearing a hat when driving when cold is not the reason. I wear a hat usually when I drive. It's an odd thing, it's called a baseball cap. It generally is for fashion or showing team spirit. The funnier part is it's also the hat I wear when I road rage and follow people into stores and to their houses. Maybe that's why you need to watch out for people wearing hats.

My biggest pet peeve is when people don't yield. You can be getting off the interstate while folks are coming around on an on ramp and they shoot out like they are a cannonball and totally ignore you.
Yield does not mean - speed up and throw caution to the wind, those with the right away will get the hell out of your way.
(I'm a yeller - but I wouldn't go so far as to stop and go bitch someone out. )
I can't stand the thing when I'm turning into an intersection with a traffic light and the car to my left or right is pulled up really close to the actual oncoming traffic.
Do you know what I mean here? Er...

That's why waving people through is a crime. The charge is "impersonating a police officer". The reason is pretty obvious because people get in those kinds of accidents pretty easily.

Here's a good one for you...most people have no clue that when you are comming onto a road from say, a drive thru exit, and there is a similair car doing the same thing parallel to you, at say, a restaurant to your right, you are supposed to yield to that person. That is actually in the driver's maual...the reason is because if you go at the first chance you get, you basicly fuck the person to your right...they have to wait for you then as well.
Another thing that pisses me off is perma-construction...you know, the kind where there's cones closing shit off, but no one has worked on the shit for weeks? I have a whole damn road by my house like that. Literally, no one has done shit on it for weeks...I say run that shit over. I've done it, and it delivers a great level of satisfaction and stress release. When I was a kid, we would steal them for backyard football games cause they make for great boundry markers. But running over them is so much sweeter. Just don't use a subcompact, they'll get stuck under there and you'll be dragging the evidence of your crime around for miles.

Okay, if you are driving in New York for anything other then to park until you leave the city, you are the idiot. There's no fault insurance there, and the cab drivers think it's okay to actually hit your car if you do not let them edge in. And with 8 million people squashed in such a small area, pedestrians are gonna be a problem...expect it. Park your car in Jersey, take a train in, and subway all over the place like everyone else.

Exactly!! Old men put on hats when they go for a drive. I was not talking about baseball caps. Over here it's not only that specific one she described they wear but also the full, brimmed felt hat that was fashionable in the 30's.

Virginia has them. They're available as long as it's not during the HOV hours. During those hours they're used as an extra lane of traffic because HOV vehicles use up the left lane.
But we still have this problem with the breakdown lane, which PB mentioned:
3) Just because you drive a pimped out white Honda Civic, it does NOT give you the right to drive on the shoulder of a busy expressway 1/2 mile earlier than your turn.

The driver is probably a New Yorker. They see it as their sacred duty to use all available space on a jammed road, especially that shoulder.
Kimm
Um, as an NYC driver, I deliberately drive halfway off of the right lane in traffic into the emergency lane for two reasons.
1) To prevent jackasses from using the emergency lane.
2) To see if the traffic up ahead is clearing up.

I do that occasionally - especially if the dotted line for my exit starts and there's someone coming up fast in the breakdown lane before they should be there. I put on my turn signal and get over at my normal speed.
Occasionally I get the high beams, but for the most part they just bitch and moan (from what I can see in the rear view). That's probably the extent of my road rage besides the occasional boxing in. :P

I also don't tend to drive defensively meaning I don't try to avoid accidents if I'm alone in my car. If someone does something stupid that's going to put them in my way and it's there fault....I don't even think about the gas all I think about is the new car I'm getting  Won't do that with passengers in my car though.
I'm the same way. I can't stand when people do stupid shit and expect you to react so they can get away with doing said stupid shit.

Oh how I love 456 and the idiots that fly down the far right shoulder/breakdown. Morons.
Two of my biggest peeves happened today as I took the monkeys to school.
Idiot in the right hand lane (4 lane road/2 lanes each direction with a turning lane at each intersection), making a right hand turn. Me wanting to make a right hand turn sitting behind them at a red light. What do they do with absolutely no traffic on the road we're turning on to? Wait till the fucking light turns green. If it wasn't for my aversion to tickets, insurance premiums, and body work ... I'd push the fuckers through the turn.
Second peeve. Instead of pulling out in front of me and into my lane (again on the same road), why not wait that extra second and wait until I go by, or turn into the empty lane since there are no cars behind me?
I should add a third.
If you're turning into a drive on the opposite side of the road and your turn is less than a quarter mile away, that does not give you license to pass me and then slam on your brakes to make the fucking turn. If you're that fucking late, the saved seconds aren't going to help you one bit.

After reading this thread for awhile it's very clear to me what needs to be done. Pedestrians need to be kept off roads at all times for their own safety, semi's get their own roads, concrete walls need to be put up all around normal vehicle roads, and we need roll cages in our vehicles, fire suits, nets, the whole deal...fuck it! Lets all be the road raged drivers we know we can be. The next time some asshole cuts me off and slams on their breaks, I wanna pull up next to em and slam em into a concrete barrier. Going to work will be even more dangerous, but a hell of a lot more fun.

That reminds me, I need to get 4-point seatbelts in my truck. Also, I need to get a truck. Also, I need to get money. :(

Na, just do it cali style.
Every driver must be armed and legalize putting down stupid drivers.
Front, side and rear mini rocket launchers need to come accustomed to all vehicles... just in case an idiot decides to do well, be an idiot on the road.

The worst drivers that I've ever experienced had to be in LA. When I was living in Arizona I used to go out there about once or twice a month and everytime I had to deal with the worst drivers. Not to mention the road construction, I remember in one spot the sign said "To be completed in 2001". It was 2003 and they were still working on it.
