This may be a dumb question, but is one clearly superior for ambushing? I've only ever used OHE and bows (effective but too finicky).
I'm curious about UAC though. I heard it bypasses E/P/B which is super fucking annoying me right now, so I'm sorely tempted. Are the DFs comparable or are you pretty fucked against heavy armor?

Hiding ambushing with UAC is a little secret that I hope the GMs will never find. It's asinine how a rogue makes far better use of this system than a monk.

Dont think that its a secret. As for monks, Hiding UAC vs. Open UAC balance is similar to what you find with weapons. U
UAC is a fun combat mechanic and extremely effective when ambushing. When fighting multiple opponents or if you cannot hide you will find things slightly harder than with weapons so make sure you get MOC

Or just cast e-wave and haste kick everything to death, that works pretty well too.

While I don't think it's a secret, I do think it's a failure of the system. No class should be better at UAC than the class built expressly for UAC, and yet, rogues and rangers can both use it more effectively than monks, simply by using ambush.

Are they though? Mechanically from hiding yes. an MOC laden monk with krynch is going to steamroll groups. my rogue was uac and lockpicking and I found uac hiding useful but time consuming and MOC with other training is hard to justify regularly for my rogue. I still use UAC to hunt but honestly I find it too slow now at 34 strictly as hiding and uac

Monks and Rogues are two completely different professions that use UAC in two different ways. They're not better or worse. They're using it differently. If you put a rogue in Reim or a warcamp alongside a Monk, they're going to be comparatively terrible because they lack a whole heap of MoC. A rogue will hit its ambush target area more often than a Monk open ambushing, on the flip side. The difference between the two is generally going for the last tier up. At decent position, you can't crit kill anything. At excellent tier, your regular attacks are weighted to usually be at least rank 6, 7, or 8, and 8 (UAC crit tables go to 11 instead of 9 like normal weapons), is generally where the fatal crit levels start. I don't play a UAC rogue, but I assume their tactic is tier up once and then hit rank 8. As a monk, the tactic is Mstrike to hit a thing four or five times to get to excellent, then hit the head, neck, or abdomen, achieving the same end result.
Depending on the situation and your playstyle, they're both just fine. Monks are better in a swarm, rogues probably have an easier go one on one.

This.
So's a MOC laden rogue..which is the problem. Because rogues have access to MOC and can hide/ambush better than monks with UAC.
