Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen,

This is post is all OOC! I've stood up the first company of the Free Companies of Elanthia today. All who wish to fight for money and prizes and aren't terribly loyal to one state or another are free to join.

So what exactly is the Free Companies of Elanthia?
We don't hold spell up events. We don't have raffles. We don't hold games. We don't hold hunting parties. We are purely a roleplaying group that accepts contracts to do everything from defend settlements to slaying beasts to... Attacking settlements. If the money is right, we do it to contract completion! We exist for our own member's RP enjoyment.

So is this a new MHO?
Nope. I'm not planning on doing the whole MHO thing. We exist for our own membership and the whole MHO thing requires events open to all. I also don't want to be tied to one specific town. We're going to be operating all over the continent.

So what sort of things do you do?
Storylines! We call them campaigns. We create our own. They'll be lore friendly, but don't expect any GM or official recognition. We won't be doing anything that we'd expect people outside of the group to be effected by... We won't be destroying Landing (because we can't really.) We may discover hidden towns and destroy them, however! That being said, everyone in will be able to participate! Not only that, you can create your own storylines and we'll run them as a group too. You can even push your own character development in them.

We currently have this crappy little website I just created- https://elanthia.enjin.com/

If you are interested, PM me your character(s)' name, your playtimes, and a little about the character you plan to join with. We will be having an IC recruitment event for the masses soon as well. I'll be posting that later.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or at that website up there.

I made it less than an hour ago so that is probably why. Not missing much except for some generic backgrounds and the rank structure. Well, and the chat room. Hit me up with a PM of your hours and what characters and all that jazz. Pretty much anyone that isn't a member of an Active or Reserve military... Like the Vaalor Legion.

I've also created channel FCOE on lich, anyone can join to ask questions or voice interest.

You can always F2P it. I'm trying to run it in such a way to where levels mean very little. I'm going to have to create NPCs and stuff for the storylines and all that mess.

That is too small time for us! We aren't "assassins" though. Think more like the Condottieri during the Renaissance and such. They were basically paid armies.

Oh suuuure. I'll remember this when I start up my own group! We're gonna be two times cooler. And we'll have blackjack. And hookers.

I don't usually play during the summer because of family shit.

Stupid family.

Well, maybe we'll still exist when fall comes around!

Very interesting.

Feel free to PM me with an interested character name and your play times and a little about him. I'm trying to recruit a few folks to run through a "mini" campaign before I do an actual IG recruiting event. Cpls, Sgts, and a Salt.

Also... you should engage the MHO structure. It's an easy way to track members and get free shit from GMs.

Have to agree with the MHO idea. Also, looks like fun. I'm to involved in other things and can't add another to type plate, though.

I originally considered that, but I don't like the requirements...

" The event must be open to the public. It CAN be restricted to a certain subset of the public (i.e., only elves or only Gosaena worshippers), but it cannot be a "members only" event."

I mean, the only thing we'll ever really do that is "open to public" is IC recruitment days. One of the things I absolutely do not want to get shoehorned into doing is spell up events, raffles, running games, etc... I have nothing against those sort of things, but it just really isn't something this organization would be doing.

I also kinda enjoy the idea of the only strings being to members and not requirements to MHO guidelines. I feel a bit more freedom.

They only have to be open to the public to count for your X a year. And spellups are just the easiest go-to for groups.

As long as you do X events per year that are open, you can do whatever you want otherwise.

Also, if you're active enough after 2 years, you can get a permanent structure, which can make a cool base, that can even have members only areas etc.

Half your events have to be in your home town, so if you turn your recruit days into events, then you just need 3 a year to be out of your base.

Plus, you can likely joint-events with Hand of the Arkati (if they're willing) to make your numbers, since your goals aren't out of alignment.

I think he is going in the right direction with no MHO. Too many requirements. Submitting reports. Just a hassle. Sounds like they will need little to no GM help in any way. And as said, can always join up at a later time if the decision goes that way.

correct, no harm in feeling things out first and submitting the application later. I just know once you get to the prize closet tier, you can get some fun items for your members etc.

You could always do spellups but just charge folks and it's open to anyone they just gotta pay and I think that would fall in line with your mercenary/army for hire plans.

Also consider Losus the barking wizard intrigued in joining

I members want to, that is fine!

Anyone interested in joining, please PM me with your character's name and your play times/days. I want to do a little mini-campaign soon to build the command infrastructure and yada yada.

... it's literally 1 report a year as the minimum requirements, just saying who went to what, which you literally copy/paste from the Also Here line... or run the ;attendance script. It's just a webform to submit it via a google form... I'm not sure why you're saying that the bar is set so high.

At tier 2 you can make your own altered/custom insignias/whatnots that you can hand out to your members.

At tier 3 you can make a bunch of prize closet things to hand out to participants.

The bar is really set super low to tier up and stuff... especially if you're really gunho about doing this.

Honestly, if we were ever big enough, I'd have a Company stationed at each major location and call myself a Colonel. I don't think GS has the population to support something that large though. In SWTOR I ran a guild that had about 160, I was able to station different units at different places with that, but I don't see half of the active population of GS joining up.

You could always have your members roll up F2Pers and cycle through them all and just pretend that people are travelling or away on duties etc.

I don't really care for artificial numbers. It is about quality, meaningful roleplaying and not just filling out spots on a roster.

It's 1 per year if you stay at Tier 1. If you want all the bells and whistles you mention, its significantly more. And this group doesn't seem to be the type to run the events that draw big crowds. And I am not saying that is a bad thing, in fact, I find it refreshing.
