I get a phishing alert when I try to go into the old thread, so I'm starting a new one, because this thread is needed. (I reported it to Kranar, no action taken that I can see)

It is likely due to a link in the thread.

What followed was a chilling confession in which Arthurs described in “specific details” how and why he had killed two of his roommates earlier, police said. According to records, Arthurs told officers that “all of them had been friends with a common neo-Nazi belief” until Arthurs converted to Islam:

"Since then, Arthurs stated, he has become angered by the world’s anti-Muslim sentiment and had wanted to bring attention to his cause. Arthurs also stated that, before the murder, he had been privy to neo-Nazi Internet chat sites threatening to kill people, and he had developed a thinking that he should take some of the neo-Nazis with him."

Inside a bedroom belonging to Russell, the roommate who had been crying when police arrived, officers found firearms, ammunition and “Nazi/white supremacist propaganda,” including a framed picture of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh on the dresser. McVeigh was sentenced to death for the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, which killed 168 and was the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil before Sept. 11, 2001.

Russell told investigators that he had made the HMTD and was the owner of the fuses found in the garage. He explained that he formerly belonged to an engineering club at the University of South Florida and had used the HMTD to “boost homemade rockets and send balloons into the atmosphere for testing,” according to the complaint.

“Based on my training and experience, HMTD is too energetic and volatile for these types of uses,” an FBI agent noted in the complaint.

Russell also admitted to being a “national socialist” who harbored neo-Nazi beliefs, and said he was a member of a group called the “Atom Waffen” (German for “atomic weapon”), the complaint said. The Southern Poverty Law Center lists the “Atomwaffen Division” as a hate group that shares “a hatred for Jews and an admiration for Adolf Hitler and Nazis.”

MIAMI (CBS12) — A man covered in face tattoos, that make him look like the Joker from the Batman movies, is facing a gun charge in Miami.

Miami-Dade Police arrested Lawrence Patrick Sullivan Tuesday night after getting a report about a man with green hair pointing a gun at cars.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/26/opinion/sunday/it-was-forced-on-me-child-marriage-in-the-us.html?_r=0

When she was a scrawny 11-year-old, Sherry Johnson found out one day that she was about to be married to a 20-year-old member of her church who had raped her.

“It was forced on me,” she recalls. She had become pregnant, she says, and child welfare authorities were investigating — so her family and church officials decided the simplest way to avoid a messy criminal case was to organize a wedding.

“My mom asked me if I wanted to get married, and I said, ‘I don’t know, what is marriage, how do I act like a wife?’” Johnson remembers today, many years later. “She said, ‘Well, I guess you’re just going to get married.’”

So she was. A government clerk in Tampa, Fla., refused to marry an 11-year-old, even though this was legal in the state, so the wedding party went to nearby Pinellas County, where the clerk issued a marriage license. The license (which I’ve examined) lists her birth date, so officials were aware of her age.

What's crazy is the possible punishment for gaming a high-school pageant. Doing it is just dumb.

I thought the punishment was crazy too until I read the story. It's not like they just stuffed a bunch of fake ballots into a box or something, they actually illegally accessed computer systems with private information stored on them and pretended they were these students in order to cast these fake votes.

It was basically tons of computer fraud.

Yeah but, 16 years for basically faking a bunch of student IDs? Yikes. I'm sure they'll get way less, but that's nuts.

They used a secure network with confidential information to fake those votes, which is where the felonies come in. They (maybe just the daughter) also fraudulently accessed the network multiple times, over several years. Children's and healthcare confidentiality is no joke.
