Ok, I was sick (upper respiratory infection with no further diagnosis IE: no bronchitis or sinusitis diagnosed) for approximately 3 weeks. After about the first week, I developed some lower back pain highlighted in the green area below. I really can't find anything on google as to what it could possibly be.

The location of the pain is pretty much from the lower part of my rib cage to a bit above my waistline. I was on antibiotics for 10 days, and my cough/sickness is gone, but I still have this awkward pain in my back and side. I'm probably going to give it a few more days, but I really have no idea what could be wrong. Anybody have any ideas? The pain is primarily in my side with some in the back as well, and affects me most when coughing and lying down.

Forgot to mention that I am debating between calling my doctor early this week, or wait a couple more days to see if the pain subsides.

Holy shit dude, that's exactly where it hurts on me from coughing.

Uh, just to ellaborate, I've been on antibiotics for a few days and prior to that was coughing violently with green excrement as an end result. Now that I'm on augmentin, I've kind of weakened a lot from being sick, and I'm still sore in my lower back and the middle of my sides from coughing. I think that with being more sedentery while taking antibiotics, combined with all the coughing that had been done, kind of created a synergy in the form of pain that is demonstrated in your design to a T.

Try webmd? I'd imagine you might get better results than a random google search.

I'm hoping it's just muscle strain on a specific area of my back or ribs being inflammed. But I'm 99% sure it was caused by a combination of coughing, and possibly sleeping awkardly. But probably the coughing.

Yeah man, I'd guess it's most likely just a muscle pull.

If you're putting stress on it by coughing for almost a month it will take a while to heal.

That's what I'm hoping for Hulkein. So I'll probably just take a couple of ibuprofen and see if that helps with it. I have no problem getting to sleep or anything, and I can deal with the pain. I'm just hoping it's not something serious, as I would feel like an idiot if it still feels this bad in another week or two and I go to a doctor and something is really wrong.

That's also right around the general area of a kidney, so it's possible that you have a swollen muscle pushing against the kidney and causing some pain. If you notice that you need to pee a lot, OR that you're having difficulty peeing, it could be that. Depends on the pain really though.

I've actually broken a rib from coughing, back when I used to have severe bronchitis attacks. Nowhere near the location your pain is coming from though, it was a lower rib but right on the side of my chest area.

If it's a sharp stabbing pain, it could be a pinched nerve. Sometimes coughing will strain a muscle so badly that a nerve will get stuck (for lack of a more medical term for it, I'm not a doctor).

If it's a dull throbbing ache, it might be just normal, mundane, unimportant overexersion of the muscles and will heal in a few days.

In any case, if it doesn't feel better in another 2-3 days, definitely see a doctor.

Try webMD.com, you can use body locations along with symptoms to get a good idea of what may be wrong, and what you can do, and how quickly you should do it.

I'm 99.999% sure it is just strain from the coughing. After my fight with bronchitis, I was sore for a long time (close to a month).

Jazuela is correct. I've had to ask my doctor about that for a patient of mine, and generally got the same information. So take the ibuprofen for the next 2 or 3 days, and if it still hurts the same, go see a doctor.
