Hey Everyone, for those of you that missed it we finished a stability test in our test environment. This test was being conducted since my last batch of “open testing” that some of you participated in. I concurrently pushed these updates in with our fresh copy of test from prime; with no issues. That being said, barring no major issues, we’re ready to move forward with the updates to playershops. I’m going to explain what happens from here, the phases, and what this means to you.
General Information
All players will have until Monday, May 15th to login and visit their shop. You will need to make sure that you have silver in your shop in order to account for the rent. Single room shops are 10k and three room shops are 30k. Shop rent will be drawn monthly, if you are 3 months behind in your rent your shop will be closed for eviction. The playershop system evaluates if the owner or a partner has entered the threshold within the last 90 days. You can check in by entering the shop and entering the SHOP command. After 90 days, your shop will be evicted.
A lot of you are going to be asking, I want a shop, how do I get a shop? Starting phase 3 you will be able to purchase shops again. There won’t be a shortage of shops, so don’t panic. There are 679 shops and of which 462 are abandoned with my latest test from prime.
Phase 1
Starting Monday the 15th, all shops will start paying rent. All shops that have not been visited within 90 days will be closed for eviction. Owners will have 30 days to visit closed shops before they will be evicted during this process.
Phase 2
Starting June the 15th, all abandoned shops as outlined above will be evicted and removed. This phase will take approximately 2 weeks.
Phase 3
Once all the evicted shops have been handled I will slowly start opening permit sales in all the realms. This will allow players to visit the local shop warehouse, buy a permit, and CLAIM a shop. The method of release is under discussion, but there will most likely be more than enough shops to just open it up and let those who want one, buy one.
Phase 4
From here, the shop system will remain in its updated state. Rent monthly will be drawn every 30 days. If you do not visit your shop within 90 days, you will be evicted. If you do not pay your rent for 90 days, you will be evicted.
The sound of the playershop market deflating.

Oddly, Retser indicated that doing the Reim project actually had a higher chance of taking him out. Apparently, it was a real trial by fire for him and he seems to have come out a champion in coding for his ordeal. Also, he puts up with a bunch of shit and generally has a playful mood about him, a good GM.

At one time, they were identical to GS homes. In some ways, they still are - one room only, furnishing limits, pets - but now they simply have "more." You can have weapon racks, armor stands. Exterior decorative items. They offer storage to varying degrees, and you can place objects on tables and dressers and so on without worrying about them disappearing. Basically, there are actual reasons to use them.

Don't you have to pay taxes on your home? And they have the ability to take it away if you fail to?

Just have to maintain a Premium subscription. Though it might go away if you don't use it for 90 days or something.

I seem to remember Wyrom or another GM explaining that when it was pretty much close to being fixed back then ... they then had some catastrophic loss of the new code, which didn't have a backup. So it was like months of work down the drain and hadn't recovered from that.
Hoping all this is backed up or processes have changed since then. Though it sounds like it is on a couple different servers/instances now!
Glad this is finally coming around, though I'm looking forward to the 2nd phase in which there'll be updates to the shops, as I already have one.

Ok, WTF is PlayerMail?
An IG Mail system where you can send letters and items and do CoD on those items to other players in GS. It is great because the other person doesn't need to be online, so it'd be amazing for merchanting. There was some bug where you could put in a negative COD amount and it'd give you tons of silver though. Something like that.

uhm, mail for players?
like email, but in game. and, assuming it isn't a complete waste of fucking time, includes the ability to send items for cash on delivery. No more spamming lnet for months looking for the person who bought your item here.
of course the need for player mail item delivery does go down somewhat if most people can just own a shop without the lol 30m buyin for a non-shitty location.

Mail system with items sounds prone for abuse in a game where inventory is limited.
I'm going to mail 2345234262672364 items to my other character, who is not online at the moment, and just never check my in game mail.
There would need to be a fairly large surcharge on the mail system.

But then your mailbox would be full after like 5 items. they tested the shit out of it on the test server with players. That is how the silver exploit was found. pMail was never mentioned again.

Fair enough... would also require a timebox on COD transactions... cause I'd love to promise to buy your 20x MS 6-slot T11 Greatbow of doom with blood runes etched in the string for 872b silvers... and then leave it in my mail forever just to fuck with you... and then cancel my account, so you're out a 20x MS 6-slot T11 Greatbow of doom with blood runes etched in the string.
It got complicated quick.

If it's like World of Warcraft's in game mail which this looks like a copy and pasted version of, all mail will be deleted x amount of days after it's been sent.

Hmm, I wonder if you can script a playershop. Like have a bunch of F2P drones sit around with your stuff in the entrance to the playershop areas 24/7, one for weapons, another for armor, and another for misc stuff etc. then just whisper in their ear "psst, you want to buy some ora claidhmores?"
Then the whole transaction will be scripted from beginning to end.

Pretty sure permits and rent will be in silvers, as was originally intended. I read the last part as a concern to make it fair and prevent someone from buying all the permits and selling them for 30M each. How they are released is VERY important to prevent stupid stupidity.

Shops are not worth anywhere close to 30m anymore. They only started going for that much when they disabled the system for reclaiming inactives, people stopped playing, inventory shrank, value went up. Exacerbated by the little inventory left being hoarded by certain people.
Shops in good locations will certainly still have a value, but if you pay 30m or anywhere close to that now, lol.

I hope so. But I have increasingly little faith in the marketing tactics as Simucoins seem to be pushing more and more into the realm of what would have in the past been covered under at least $40 a month with a premium membership. Who's to say they don't make it Reim-like? Prime accounts get jack shit, premium accounts have access to buying a one room shop, both can be upgraded via simucoins. That's my fear. They know they'd face a riot if they went full on gank-mode and took away something that was previously part of the subscription. But they might try to sneak some BS like that in there.

I would hope at the very least they learned the lesson that after the initial claim rush is done, every single shop behind on rent are no longer automatically reclaimed at the same exact time of day on the same day of the month anymore.

Yeah, sorry that my hypothetical scenario about possible abuse of the system didn't conform to exacting price standards. You missed the point to nitpick nonsense. I am fully aware of the problems in the past and why the prices hiked to what they did. Perhaps that was the reference.

There are people that have accounts for every class. There are people that would start an account just to buy one. They should put a minimum subscription amount, like to have an active account for 3 months straight.

I couldn't find anything on the wiki regarding subscription length. Premium gets 3 room shops and regular gets 1 room. Since F2P wasn't implemented back then I don't think it was ever considered.

Probably should all be under News but, more updates!
Hello everyone, a few updates and notes.
First, I've updated the policy on PARTNERS and OWNERS. You can view the policy by using SHOP POLICY.
You will now find the following item:
4) If a shop owner fails to check into their shop for 90 days the partner can take over the shop by means of an ASSIST. If more than one partner is on the shop, all partners will need to give consent to a single partner. If an agreement cannot be made, the shop will be evicted. If the original owner returns, they cannot reclaim the shop from the new owner without their consent. This will be handled in a case by case situation and is not a guarantee.
In the near future, I'll be working a way to automate this process. These changes are in effect as of 5/15/2017.
Shop Notifications PREMIUM ONLY
All premium subscribers can now enjoy shop notifications. If you are a premium subscriber, you must enter and exit your shop to refresh your premium status on it. This is held for 30 days before needing to be refreshed again. At this time, all partners will also receive the benefit of the owner's premium status. You will not see this message if your offline, they will not be stored. If you are online and an item sells, you will receive a message like this:
Your kroderine full plate just sold for 5000 silvers from the simple shop. After tax you made 4849 silvers!

Effective immediately, all shop owners will have access to the following two commands.
