For the past few days anytime I use the SGE, I click NEXT and it just locks up on the "Connecting to Simutronics...." part. I've tried reinstalling the program in different folders, nothing works.

Also even though I'm uninstallng and deleting the entire SGE folder, it still has my info remembered when I run it again after reinstalling.

Anyone know where these other files are stored that has my info saved and/or what I can do to get this damn thing to work? I never had any problems with it for years, now it's just not working at all. Anyone got any ideas?

I can log into the game through the website without any problems, but as far as I know, you have to log in through the SGE for PsiNet to run. Is there another way to get PsiNet to run without using the SGE?

Methais, I have had the same problem for over 1 month. Sent e-mail to feedback as well as posted on the message boards and have had completely 0 responses.

As of then, I have been using the website, which works, but kind of sucks.

Here is an e-mail log, of which I have not heard back from since.

.

ME:
Soulpieced here. I just got my Internet connection back and running,
and I can't get logged in through the wizard. I can get through the
first screen to enter ID and password, 2nd screen to get into GSIV,
then when I hit Next after selecting my character, I'm getting 2
pop-ups saying "Unable to create temporary file", and "Error launching
game". Any ideas? I can get into game through the website.

FEEDBACK:
In this situation it sounds like the browser you are using does not
function with the requirements for entering that way. In this case, what
you need to do is go to www.play.net/software/ and on that page you will
find links for downloading a number of different programs, in this case the
program you want is the Simutronics Game Entry Software. All you need to
do is know what operating system your machine is running, and download the
version of the SGE for your computer.

Once you have that, run it to install and it will create a blue and purple
shield icon. Double clicking on that activates a direct connection to the
login server bypassing the website. From there, it installs whatever other
pieces you may need, and connects to the game directly.

This should solve any problems you may be having from a technical
standpoint. If this also fails or generates a problem, let me know
precisely what the system does at each step, and I will see if we can find
a working solution.

ME:
I downloaded and installed both the InchInst.exe and sg32inst.exe
files to my computer. My first e-mail clearly explained what my
problem was. I *CAN* log into the game through the website. I can
*NOT* log in through the SGE Wizard.

Screen 1: When I open up the Simutronics Game Entry, I am prompted to
enter User ID and Password. That screen validates correctly.

Screen 2: I then select which game to play, select Gemstone IV, next.
Goes fine.

Screen 3: Select the character you want to use. I select my
character and click on Next with the Wizard radio box checked. **The
problem is here** I get 2 very fast pop-ups reading "Unable to to
create temporary file", and then "Error launching game". The SGE then
returns to Step 3: Select the character you want to use. And says
"Launching game..." in the bottom label.

I have been using the SGE for 4 years on this computer, and it worked
fine before the newest updates came out.

FEEDBACK:
... based on what you say, this is a Windows error. The "Unable to
create temporary file" is a dead giveaway. To determine how to get around
this, what version of Windows are you running? There are minor differences
that men slightly different things in solving the problem.

ME:
Windows XP, and I have the newest Service Pack 2. Running the latest
version of ZoneAlarm firewall, but never had problems directly caused
by it.

Similar problem, but not the exact same. I can't even get past the login screen. I have my info saved so I don't have to type it in everytime (and my info still shows up after I reinstall it and run it again, so obviously there's somewhere else on my PC that it's accessing that info from but I have no idea where), but as soon as I click NEXT on that first screen, it just freezes up. The part where it says "Connecting to Simutronics...." I can't even get to the part where you pick which game you wanna play. I end up having to CTRL+ALT+DEL to close the program.

I wouldn't really care if I knew another way to get Psinet to run without using the SGE, but it's still annoying.

Of course I just now reinstall SGE again and it works. Well damn.

Whenever I reinstall it, my saved info still shows up. Shouldn't that have also been deleted when I uninstall the SGE? If not, where the hell do I find the file(s) that are saving that shit?

I have no clue really. At first I had attempted deleting every folder except for the one with my logs and character info for the Wizard. That did no good, so I have no idea what I did differently between the last time I had attempted to log in.

Also when I run psinet.exe, it says I have to log into the game first. So I log into the game and then run it, and still get the message:

Just taking a shot in the dark, but two things I can think of checking are to make sure the account you're logged into in Windows has Admin rights and check any firewall (Built-in in Windows XP SP2 or 3rd Party) and make sure that SGE has permission to access teh intarweb.

Just use Jamus's autosge! It's so much better! :)

The "Unable to create temporary file" error is a small error with Psinet installed. Jamus walked me through fixing it. In the psinet folder, there is a text file (don't remember the name.) all it has is the number 0 in it. Change that 0 to 1, save it.

Won't have that error again.

I thought I was the only person who's SGE took a dump on them and quit working..

How do I check the firewall thing? I forget how to do it everytime I need to do it. I'm pretty sure it's disabled though.

The AutoSGE part of the Psinet homepage (http://psinet.dynalias.net) is currently 404.

SOul, if you are getting a temp file error, look in the main folder of C: for a file named gse.~xt. This is the login temp file GSE creates, delete that, it could be read only and can't be changed.

AFAIK thats hte only temp file and would not be deleted most likely when you uninstall.

Now I appear to be having a different (and very bad) problem.

I have a character logged into game, and the wizard is open for that character. At random times, sometimes while scripting singing to gems, the Wizard will just close for no apparent reason. However, the character stays logged into the game. This may be because of a crappy connection I seem to have had to my DSL line, but I really hope that's the answer, and it's not something wrong with the software.

U2U Anticor. That's always corrected any problems I've ever had with my computer.

Tell him to fix it or you will kick his ass.

If anyone was wondering why feedback is so useless....

Another thing I'm confused about is that even though I've uninstalled and deleted the program, when I run it after reinstalling it, my saved information still shows up. Shouldn't that have been deleted as well when I removed the SGE program from my system? If not, where can I find this file(s) to remove them? I don't know if that would be part of the problem or not, but I'm guessing it would have something to do with it. How do I go about getting rid of this file(s)? I have no problems logging into the game through the website, as I only encounter this problem when trying to use the SGE.

To figure out what may be happening, I need a bit more information on what is happening.

1)What operating system are you using? (Windows 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, XP, XP Service Pack 2, Mac O/S):

****2)How are you connecting to the internet?

Provider (AOL, Prodigy, other ISP):
****Method (Cable modem, modem, LAN connection):
****If you are using a LAN, do you go through a proxy server and/or firewall?

3)What browser are you using to access our web site? (Internet Explorer, Netscape, please be sure to include version):

4)What URL are you using to access our site (eg: http://play.net)

5)What version of our software are you using, if applicable?

6)please describe your problem in detail. Be sure to mention any error messages (exact wording preferred) or unexpected screens you may be seeing:

If you can provide as much of this as you can, I will have a much better idea of what to look for that could be causing the problem.

Yeah Methais. After I gave them that list of things, they never responded anyway.
