1120 + 1117 oddity

All of these creatures were sympathetic, which makes it odd that the bodyguard is casting me at the first place. It's stranger still that it's casting at itself, but what really puzzles me is that when it hits itself with the bolt, it sets off 1117. Seems like the bodyguard is using the evoked version of 518 and it's buggy somehow with 1120 up and makes everything in the room count as a target, even the caster and the empath. I don't get why it sets off the empathic link, though -- should only be damage dealt by the caster that propagates.
