Has anyone had success or is it even possible to run Lich using a third party non-Simutronics client?

I know I've asked this quite a long time back and some may have indicated it could potentially be possible, but not sure if anyone has had any success on this end since then. Had a recent longing for an automatic travel script again, as it would be so much simpler than relying on what areas I have memorized from long ago.

I run GMA Games' VIP MUD Client, which is a client made for visually impaired/blind players. I have version 2.0.

I also have to wonder if Lich itself, or at least any parts that may have a separate GUI or interface, are accessible to a screen reading program or not. Otherwise this may be a moot point if I'm unable to work the program.

Every day.

That thread may prove useful for you (and in general, asking lich questions in the lich sub folder will likely help)

The gist of it is you need to launch lich with these arguments: --without-frontend --detachable-client=8000

Then with whatever client you're using to connect, you would connect to "localhost" or 127.0.0.1 for the server, using port 8000 (or whatever port you specify with the detachable-client argument, 8000 is the default)

Now getting whatever client you're using to WORK with gemstone is another matter entirely. Unlike most other Muds you're not just getting the output from the game you're also getting the constant stream of XML data about all the room objects, npcs, updating things like your current status effects, etc. The simutronics clients, and the profanity client tillmen wrote and mentioned in the thread i linked above, are coded specifically to digest that data correctly. I know people have used things like zmud so it's possible for other clients as well, just a matter of you know...doing it :D

That would be exactly what I'm looking for - thanks! I'll have to try it out and see if it works.

The client, VIP MUD, doesn't handle XML or anything, though, but I've been playing straight GS for years on it.

And I totally didn't realize I posted in this folder - I was pretty exhausted when I thought to post this last night. I blame tiredness. Ha.
