They're part of the whole bloodforge thing. You get like.. 5? 5 of the ores and a crucible that is 250 BS and then do.. something.. and you can use all that to turn your moonshard pendant from it's boring gornar or mithril or whatever into.. whatever ore you're using.

I could easily be wrong on the number, as I have no moonshard to alter and thus, haven't tried to.. but I asked a few days ago and that was the number reported to me, by a friend.
