Solution to your problem? Uninstall and play PUBGs with us.

looks like default windows 8 or 8.1 colors.
Make sure you are running as admin or accepting the UAC prompt to allow.
Also, did you install the client you want to use ? Wizard or Stormfront.

PB: I was thinking of that movie when I posted, haha. PUBG as in the FPS?
Chalion: I did install Wizard and can play on Wizard without lich. I am running admin and do allow it but still get that error. Does it matter that every time I play via Wizard without lich I have to open the .sal file that downloads when I hit play?

Yeah, it sounds like that file lost association with wizard.
Go into control panel, default programs.
choose "associate a file type or protocol.."
find .sal on the list and highlight it
Make sure it says "simutronics.autolaunch" for the description and "launcher" for the current default
If it says anything else, click on "change program" and browse to the 'launcher' file in the folder where wizard is installed.
For wizard the names and settings might be slightly different, but it sounds like you lost your association.

While the OP seems to have abandoned this thread, I stumbled onto it as I'm having the same issue. Following your advice, I find that the associations you pointed out are already set (.sal is associated with "Simutronics.Autolaunch" and "Launcher"), but I still get the following debug:

2017-11-25 15:52:04: error: failed to find the Simutronics launcher
Through SGE, Stormfront opens up just fine, but it doesn't trigger Lich. I need to find out how to "tell" lich where the launcher is. Any other ideas on how to do this?

Looks like you might have the wrong version of ruby installed, you want version 2.0.0 , not 2.4
