I was curious if anyone has done any research into how much more effective shield charge is over shield bash. Right now, as a pure elf using a tower shield, I feel like shield bash isn't as effective for my character as it should be. Do elves receive a penalty when using larger shields versus smaller ones?

The documentation doesn't clarify such things, or I am just not seeing it. Also the wiki is vague on the differences between the two skills, as it just says that charge is "more effective".

Roll up a giantman, get shield bash, use on critter. Roll up a Elf, get shirld bash, set stats to same as giantman, bash same critter. The giantman will recieve avhefty bonus vs. elf.

Screw them both and use trample. Requires more points, but much more effective.

I would, but it isn't available for Paladins. I'm stuck choosing between the two.

I always liked charge better, but this was always on human characters.

Paladins don't have access to trample? That's ridiculous!

I guess they figured 1630 was enough CC for them. Maybe having trample at the same time would be too much? It would make a great combo with trample for sure.

From previous inquiries about this same question the pro's and con's were something like:

1. Shield Bash costs less stamina, and has a higher change of inflicting criticals (some of which can kill instantly), but is weaker on smaller races.

2. Shield Charge costs more stamina, has a slightly higher change of knocking targets over, and works better with smaller races - but costs more SMAN or CMAN skill points (because it requires rank 2 SBash) and does less damage to the target.
