View Full Version : Trump Will Totally Fix North Korea

If China doesn't do what they should, then Trump is willing to solve the problem unilaterally and "totally." Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are meeting this week (http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/03/politics/trump-foreign-policy/) at the Southern White House (http://mashable.com/2017/02/18/trump-tweet-southern-white-house/). Starting a war might also help Trump's sagging approval numbers.
On the campaign trail and since taking office, Trump has argued China is responsible for the continued nuclear proliferation in North Korea. He said in his Financial Times interview that he planned to talk with Xi about that situation and use trade as "the incentive" to talk China into fixing it.
Trump has repeatedly said he would take aggressive action against China to reduce the US trade deficit with the country. But if the talks with Xi don't produce Trump's desired result of getting Beijing to solve the North Korean nuclear problem, Trump said the US would take action.
"If China is not going to solve North Korea, we will," Trump told the Financial Times.
Asked to clarify if he believed the US could solve the problem without China, Trump said: "totally."

WASHINGTON — Days before President Trump hosts his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, a top U.S. official warned Tuesday that “the clock has run out” on decades of diplomatic efforts to rein in North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs, and military action may ultimately be necessary.

You knock out what you can with drones and airstrikes, after thst, counter fire. Their arty would be knocked out very quickly. Wouldn't be anywhere near millions dead from their artillery. The instant a shell goes into the air, even a mortar, we have sensors that tell us exactly where it came from and we can hit back even before it lands. Phalanx guns can shoot arty shells out of the air too. They would eventually either all be destroyed or stop firing out of fear.

Trump's approval ratings have been on a downward trend since he was sworn in, setting new record lows (http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2017/03/19/donald_trump_s_approval_rating_hits_new_record_low _according_to_gallup.html) for any President early in the term. Well I don't know if it's "all" Obama's fault, but he sure did as little as he could during his time in office.
North Korea tested a nuke during Bush's second term in office and shortly afterwards they were pressured into closing down their reactors.
Shortly after Obama took office North Korea started back up their nuclear program and tested another nuke. Since then they have conducted two or three more tests.
I'm not sure what Trump plans on doing about North Korea, but shit sure reached its boiling point on Obama's watch.

The tension's always been there, but mostly from the '80s onward when they were hijacking planes and detonating bombs. The nuclear thing really kicked off under Bush II, but I don't necessarily fault him (or Obama) for not jumping in because were were already embroiled in Iraq & Afghanistan.

So, the current Carrier Group off Korea is there because the one that is supposed to be there is undergoing repairs in Japan and the third on is actually thousands of miles from Kroea conducting routine exercises with Australia. There aren't 3 Carrier Groups heading to Korea and "Officials did, however, flatly deny reports that three U.S. carrier strike groups were being directed to mass off the Korean peninsula in a few weeks. Well, we could go with the Obama Doctrine of appeasement, apology and drawing pretty red lines.. but looks where that's gotten us...
A war with North Korea is a de facto war with China and eventually Russia as well, most layman person and Americans just don't understand this. It's why a North Korean or North China conflict as it were will never happen because it's effectively a prelude to World War 3.

I think over the course of the past 8 years people have forgotten that the US holds a lot of influence in the world and the rest of the world (mostly) looks to the US for leadership.
If our stance on North Korea is just more "Let's wait and see" then the rest of the world will take the same stance.
If our stance on North Korea changes to "Okay enough is enough" then (most) of the rest of the world will take the same stance.
I'm not saying this as a patriotic American who thinks the US is the greatest, even though it's true, it's just the reality of things.
I'm also not suggesting that the rest of the world is going to join us if we decide to attack North Korea, which I doubt is going to happen anyways, but they will either support us or do the usual public denouncement to score points with their own voters while secretly agreeing with us.
China gains nothing by defending North Korea in this situation and stands to lose a hell of a lot. Same goes for Russia. If Russia thinks they are hurting now because of US and EU sanctions just wait until they side with North Korea over this, or worse yet sends in troops to help the North Korean government.

North Korea's leader issued a new crazy sounding threat against the United States..
North Korea's state-run KCNA news agency said the country's missile launches were a "stern warning to the US," and warned Washington against "believing that its land is safe across the ocean."
"(North Korea) will make the US pay dearly for all the heinous crimes it commits against the state and people of this country," KCNA said.
More... (https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4198241/north-korea-vows-to-make-america-pay-for-sanctions-as-trump-says-us-must-be-tough-and-decisive-on-crackpot-kim-jong-un/)
I'm just glad we have President Trump to respond with the measured reason that is to be expected from a superpower..
"North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States," warned Mr. Trump from his golf club in Bedminster.
"They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen," he told reporters. "He has been very threatening -- beyond a normal statement," Mr. Trump said of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. "As I said, they will be met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before."

JFK inherited the Vietnam war from Eisenhower but he was smart enough to get assassinated rather than go through 8 years at war.
LBJ inherited the Vietnam war from JFK but was lucky enough to not be able to serve a full 8 years.
Nixon inherited the Vietnam war from LBJ but had the good sense to get impeached before serving a full 8 years while at war.
So really it is Obama's fault he served 8 years while at war.

Apparently they may have gotten a massive boost in their capabilities from a Ukranian missile plant that used to make the Soviet Union/Russian Federation's ICBM's
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/14/world/asia/north-korea-missiles-ukraine-factory.html
Analysts who studied photographs of the North’s leader, Kim Jong-un, inspecting the new rocket motors concluded that they derive from designs that once powered the Soviet Union’s missile fleet. The engines were so powerful that a single missile could hurl 10 thermonuclear warheads between continents.
Those engines were linked to only a few former Soviet sites. Government investigators and experts have focused their inquiries on a missile factory in Dnipro, Ukraine, on the edge of the territory where Russia is fighting a low-level war to break off part of Ukraine. During the Cold War, the factory made the deadliest missiles in the Soviet arsenal, including the giant SS-18. It remained one of Russia’s primary producers of missiles even after Ukraine gained independence.
Further in the article:
Bolstering his conclusion, he added, was a finding by United Nations investigators that North Korea tried six years ago to steal missile secrets from the Ukrainian complex. Two North Koreans were caught, and a U.N. report said the information they tried to steal was focused on advanced “missile systems, liquid-propellant engines, spacecraft and missile fuel supply systems.”
So maybe everyone should really consider that this foot loop has or will have very shortly, real missiles and likely other tech to drop nukes on the US or the rest of the world. Amazing how ignoring Putin's little war of conquest in Ukraine and basically blocking the Ukraine from joining Nato is going to bite us in the ass.

Two things to note.
1. I've been told that factory has ties to Yanukovich and Russia.
2. When Ukraine turned over it's nuclear weapons some of those missiles ended up in warehouses in Russia.
And speaking of Ukraine I hope Trump does the right thing and approves lethal military aid RSN.

I think a genius stroke would be for Trump to appoint Obama as a special envoy to North Korea. Then Obama heads to NK with Dennis Rodman, where they proceed to host a charity basketball game. We send in Christian Bale disguised as their cameraman and he proceeds to assassinate Kim Jong using a BAT-er-rang. We then send in Seal Team 9 (they're so secret Seal Team 6 is jealous) to turn off the one working light in NK and exfil the trio under cover of darkness. We then hire Judd Apatow to write the screenplay.

Trump smacked down his Secretary of State this morning.
The tweets came the day after Tillerson, on a visit to Beijing, told reporters the administration had direct lines of communication with North Korea and was probing for a response. “We ask, ‘Would you like to talk?’” he said. “We can talk to them, we do talk to them.”

Sobering comments from Sen. Graham:
JOHN DICKERSON: North Korea. Where are we with North Korea right now?
SENATOR LINDSEY GRAHAM: We're getting close to military conflict because North Korea is marching toward marrying up the technology of an ICBM with the nuclear weapon on top that cannot only get to America, but deliver the weapon. We're running out of time. McMaster said that yesterday. I'm going to urge the Pentagon not to send any more dependents to South Korea. South Korea should be unaccompanied tour. It's crazy to send spouses and children to South Korea, given the provocation in North Korea. So, I want them to stop sending dependents. And I think it's now time to start moving American dependents out of the South Korea."
JOHN DICKERSON: How close? You say we're getting close to military confrontation. What's-- what-- what are we talking about here?
SENATOR LINDSEY GRAHAM: The intelligence community can tell you that better than I can. But I had extensive discussion with the administration about this topic. The policy of the Trump administration is to deny North Korea the capability to hit America with a nuclear-tipped missile. Not to contain it. Denial means pre-emptive war as a last resort. That preemption is becoming more likely as their technology matures. Every missile test, every underground test of a nuclear weapon means the marriage is more likely. I think we're really running out of time. The Chinese are trying, but ineffectively. If there's an underground nuclear test then you need to get ready for a very serious response by United States.

The thing is I can't really be mad at him at a personal level because he reminds me so much of my grandpa. Just crushes open that Ipad box I got him for Christmas: mumble grumble "I can do this myself! I know what I'm doing! just sit down pansy man!"
It's endearing when you look at his shaking hands and frail form struggling even to turn on the damn thing, you tear up and you just want to hold him and say, "Yes you can grandpa! Yes you can!"
All I got out of that was that even your grandfather refers to you as "pansy man".

Hummmmm, I wonder how much air time this will get, especially since it seems that Trump's tactics seem to be producing some results?
(CNN)President Donald Trump has agreed to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un by May, the White House and the South Korean national security adviser said Thursday evening.
"President Trump greatly appreciates the nice words of the South Korean delegation and President Moon. He will accept the invitation to meet with Kim Jong Un at a place and time to be determined. We look forward to the denuclearization of North Korea. In the meantime, all sanctions and maximum pressure must remain," White House press secretary Sarah Sanders announced in a statement.

I had feared and assumed that President Trump had agreed to the meeting without consulting any of his top foreign policy advisors. It turns out to have been even stupider than I had imagined.
He didn’t just not ask. There doesn’t even seem to have been an actual invitation – or at least that was not what the South Koreans believed they were coming to discuss. The President ordered the South Korean representative, Mr. Chung, to the Oval Office and proceeded to quiz him about his meeting with Kim. Chung mentioned Kim’s eagerness to meet with Trump and Trump said he would do it. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/white-house-now-trying-to-moonwalk-back-trumps-summit-goof

Most likely, however, is that the White House is about to walk right into a trap the North Koreans have been laying for American presidents since the 1990s. A one-on-one summit between a U.S. president and one of the world’s weirdest and most irresponsible leaders would be a huge reward for a regime that has long chided other rogues and dictators for their weakness in dealing with the United States. (When Moammar Gadhafi of Libya was torn to pieces by his own people after NATO weakened his army, Kim taunted the world by noting that Gadhafi should have kept his nuclear program.)
Such a meeting would legitimize not only Kim’s regime, but his methods. No matter how the White House spins it, the North Koreans will claim a huge victory in getting Trump to bend to their will.
Ya, trump will fuck it up and claim victory. The trumpanzees will worship him for it no matter how this goes. Good, bad, indifferent...the trumpanzee will echo whatever trump b.s. comes out of his mouth.

Exactly!
By collecting high-quality seismic data and examining satellite imagery before and after the tests, scientists were able to determine where these earthquake swarms occurred and that they were indeed caused by the tests. Past tests have altered the area’s capacity to withstand tectonic stress to the extent that previously inactive tectonic faults have reached a state of “critical failure”. Further disturbances and future nuclear testing in the region could generate more destructive earthquakes.

According to multiple sources with the S. Korean government and the Chinese government, it was President Trump's focus, drive and pressure on this from the very beginning.
What specifically did he do though? People are talking like he cast Power Word: Disarm and Kim wasn't high enough level to resist it. I believe there's an interesting story here, but NONE of it makes sense with just traditional diplomacy.

It's probably a combination of things. Maybe President Trump is in the right place at the right time.
Maybe it's the collapse of their nuclear testing site.
Maybe after 30 years the sanctions finally worked?
Maybe after President Trump successfully negotiated the Chinese involvement?
Maybe after President Trump successfully motivated the S. Koreans to begin discussions?

(CNN)South Korea's foreign minister has said she believes President Donald Trump is largely responsible for bringing North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to the negotiating table.
Speaking ahead of Friday's historic summit between the leaders of North and South Korea, Kang Kyung-wha told CNN that the US President had played a significant role in bringing the two sides together.
"Clearly, credit goes to President Trump," Kang told CNN's Christiane Amanpour in Seoul. "He's been determined to come to grips with this from day one."

SEOUL — South Korean President Moon Jae-in said President Donald Trump deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end the standoff with North Korea over its nuclear weapons program, a South Korean official said Monday.
“President Trump should win the Nobel Peace Prize. What we need is only peace,” Moon told a meeting of senior secretaries, according to a presidential Blue House official who briefed media.
Moon and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Friday pledged to end hostilities between the two countries and work towards the “complete denuclearization” of the Korean peninsula in the first inter-Korean summit in more than a decade.

Even if there's an argument that he didn't do anything that wouldn't happen anyway, he's still POTUS and he's pushed this. Dear Mr. Chairman:
We greatly appreciate your time, patience, and effort with respect to our recent negotiations and discussions relative to a summit long sought by both parties, which was scheduled to take place on June 12 in Singapore. We were informed that the meeting was requested by North Korea, but that to us is totally irrelevant. I was very much looking forward to being there with you. Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting. Therefore, please let this letter serve to represent that the Singapore summit, for the good of both parties, but to the detriment of the world, will not take place. You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used.

U.S. officials working to plan President Trump’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore have reportedly run into a logistical problem — who will pay for Kim's hotel?
The Washington Post reported Friday that the cash-strapped state requires a foreign country to cover the cost of their preferred accommodations.
A presidential suite at The Fullerton hotel, a five-star resort on a secluded island, can cost more than $6,000 a night.
The North Korean delegation may also need to travel on a plane provided by another country, the newspaper reported.
Two sources told the Post that the U.S. is open to covering the tab of the summit, but they noted that Pyongyang could also view the payment as an insult
Are we straight getting trolled here? The big ass letter, the offer of opening a burger joint and now they might get us to pay for their hotel and airfare. LMAO. Oh, but we can't directly pay, because that will be seen as an insult so we have to jump through some sorts of hoops to get it paid by someone else while Kim saves face. This shit is surreal.

I get to discredit it because there is literally nothing that suggests that he did anything to make it happen. If you have something to back up your claim, like I asked, feel free to share it.

Are you talking about NK's nuclear program or their relationship with SK? Goddamn.
See above.

If trump gets this done, NK gives up nukes, opens their borders and generally becomes a real functional member of the international community I'll give trump all the credit. For now, I'm skeptical af. Like Russia, trump's given too much power to this two bit player and I believe we'll get shit for the efforts

He has gotten further with North Korea than any president, ever. You're being a fucking pussy strictly on the basis that it's Trump. Get over it.
Wrong. Your fave Jimmy C got way way further. Right now it's all talk. Let's see what Trump can actually accomplish before we lay on the accolades.

I believe he deserves credit for getting China to actually enforce sanctions. As far as "getting further", he's got what, a meeting that may or may not actually happen, that may or may not actually do anything? That's a really shitty metric you're using. NK has "given up" their nuclear program then brought it back multiple times over the past 20+ years. Maybe you want to wait until we're past that stage before declaring this a historic event.

The big reason why we are seeing anything right now is because their testing facility suffered a catastrophic collapse, destroying who knows how much of their testing equipment as well as hundreds of scientists and workers.

They just put out some cool videos blowing up the entrance to their testing tunnels as "proof" of their commitment.

He did? Isn't his deal what got us where we are today?

I agree. It's all just talk right now. I think it's a very good thing that we're at least talking, something we have been unable to accomplish in the past 40 years.
Let's just wait and let this play out.

The last agreement was Jimmy Carter's. And it was an improvement over relations at the time. It's not his fault that no one since has been able to make progress.
Every president since then has gotten as far or further than Trump is now. Which isn't saying a whole lot.

Kim's the Belle of the Ball right now. Meetings with China, Russia and now Assad (Russia's flunky) is coming for a visit. He's already won and hasn't even attended the negotiations yet. If Donnie's not careful Kim's going to snatch that Nobel Peace Prize from his tiny little fingers.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad announced plans to visit North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to a report on Sunday.
“I am going to visit the DPRK and meet HE Kim Jong Un,” Assad said as he received the credentials of Pyongyang’s ambassador late last week, Reuters reported, citing North Korean state media.
“The world welcomes the remarkable events in the Korean peninsula brought about recently by the outstanding political caliber and wise leadership of HE Kim Jong Un,” Assad said, according the report.
“I am sure that he will achieve the final victory and realize the reunification of Korea without fail,” he added.

The last agreement was Jimmy Carter's. And it was an improvement over relations at the time. It's not his fault that no one since has been able to make progress.
But it did nothing substantial to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons.. which is the problem we've had for the past 40 years.
Every president since then has gotten as far or further than Trump is now. Which isn't saying a whole lot.
Really? So each President has set up a face to face meeting with the NK leader? News to me.
With the South Korean backing as well as China's?
You might want to take your fingers out of your ears. I realize you dislike President Trump.. but what you are trying to say makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

If it leads to North Korea coming around and being a normal country on this planet.. I have no problem with Kim getting a Peace Prize.

Mattis is full of shit if he believes this. By now we all know that trump will do whatever he feels like and Mattis job will be to make excuses for it. He's neutered and might as well quit.
(Bloomberg) -- North Korea will get relief from international sanctions only when it has shown irreversible moves toward denuclearization, U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis said ahead of a summit next week between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
…
His comments came after Trump conceded that North Korea won’t agree immediately to give up its nuclear arsenal, and seemingly walked back expectations for a quick deal from his planned June 12 Singapore meeting with Kim.
Asked Friday about the vaunted “maximum pressure” campaign of sanctions enacted to rein in North Korea, Trump said, “I don’t want to use that term. Because we’re getting along.”
The U.S. has previously insisted that North Korea give up all its weapons before it can shed its pariah status or get any relief from sanctions. North Korea has bristled at the idea, and it’s unclear if the two sides will be able to bridge their differences enough for the meeting to be deemed a success.
…
The summit was resurrected after Trump called it off in a letter to Kim on May 24, complaining of “the tremendous anger and open hostility” in comments from North Korea. But he had also left the door open, writing, “If you change your mind having to do with this most important summit, please do not hesitate to call me or write.”
Trump’s talk now of an open-ended process is a jarring shift from the speedy outcome that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and other officials demanded when the summit was in limbo. Trump didn’t say what he hopes to get out of the summit, nor did he talk about what the U.S. was prepared to give up, aside from musing about the possibility of a declaration ending the Korean War for good.
