I been away for quite a while, and I ran across a message I didn't understand when I started playing again recently.
"You feel like the vultite lockpick has degraded too much to be a true test of your glorious abilities."
I'm guessing that this message means that if I was using a lockpick that hadn't been repaired or stressed, I might have gained a rep for my Lockmastery guild skill? Is that correct? If it's not to do with Lockmastery, what would it be in regards to?
Thanks.

Jeez Simu, let's be careful we're not inflating the egos of rogues to much, sheesh.

is there a limit to the stressing of a lockpick? will you only get reps on lockpicks that have never been stressed or is it repairing a broken lockpick that will bar you from getting a rep?

Good question.

Do we have a rogue guru, or lockpicking guru, that I could try and track down to shoot off a question to?

The message was because as your lockpick degrades, so does its modifier. As you advance in LM, you need a higher modifier on your pick for reps, which is why you can't keep using mithril the whole time for instance.
In my experience, more than two-ish repairs to a broken lockpick and it was pretty much done for, LM-wise.

I'll let a pick break twice. After that, I use it for a deed.
If it's not for LM reps and you have some space between what you're picking and the degrading lockpick's abilities, using it should earn you more experience when picking.
