Well I finally got drunk enough one night that I asked my gf to marry me. We've been together going on 9 years now. lived together for most of it.
It started so harmlessly...I needed a place to live, she needed help with the rent so I moved in 'for a month or 2' until I got a new place. And I never left.
So we are doing this on Jan. 8th. I wanted to do it on New Years Day but she said NO WAY. She said that's way to easy of an anniversary to remember...ugh.
Wedding gifts accepted! Preferably cash! Or everyone just pool together and send us on a honeymoon. <3
That's Awesome.
Congratulations.

First off lemme say ROFLMAO So true! I was almost tempted to get married on my fiance's birthday simply because I DON'T want him to forget the anniversary but good on the woman!
Secondly CONGRATS!

I need to start a list of things NOT to say in preparation for a wedding:
For one, I really don't care about the details. I don't care where, who is there, what is served, what the colors are..I just don't care. As far as I'm concerened we can just run down to the courthouse and sign off some papers and be married. As long as she is there, I don't care about the rest. But with that being said......
She kept asking me about this stuff...and I kept answering 'I don't care whatever you want honey'...WRONG ANSWER!!!!!!!!
Again I can't stress this enough. Because I got chewed out for 3 days after that. I got the 'YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT ANYTHING' routine....so now I have a bunch of pre-canned responses. She'll ask what food I want I respond with BLUE! She asks about what color theme I want, the answer is SHRIMP.
I know I have some fine-tuning to do, but it's getting better.

If you have to be drunk to ask her you might want to reconsider.

Rather than "I don't care," you might try the following...
"Honey, I already have the perfect wedding. I'm marrying you. Beyond that, I want whatever you want to make the day perfect in your mind."
"I want this to be your dream wedding. I'll be thrilled with whatever you choose."
"This day is your day. All I want is you beside me."
In other words, make it clear that you love her and want to marry her (do NOT mention I got drunk and proposed), but the decisions are up to her so that she can make her day special, not because you don't care.

Wow! Congratulations AkMan! Congratulations to your lady, as well. She's a lucky gal! :)

Congrats!
Now...don't pull the same thing my husband did. He didn't care about the arrangements - but occasionally he would throw in his disdain for something. Denied! Don't want to have input, then keep your gripes to yourself.
PS Do what Jorddyn said, 110%.

Don't get married on a date that means something, like Valentine's Day, Christmas, your birthday, New Year's Eve... because if something should happen to the marriage and it dissolves, you have a lifetime of always remembering it was your wedding day. I've forgot the date of my first marriage, thankfully. Once every couple of years if I focus on the date on that day, I just go "Oh yeah" instead of "Yuck, why did I have to think of him."

For some reason I thought AkMan was like...17?

I'm over the hill...ripe ol' age of 31.
And the being drunk part was a bit of an exaggeration...this is something I've been thinking about for a while now. I just wanted to spice it up a little bit. :clown:
Edit: Thanks everyone for the advice and congrats.

Jorddyn is so smart. Hopefully my fiance (its even weird having to type it too) will let me design our wedding how I want. Hehe.

Where do you want to go for your Honeymoon Akman? If you want to figure out airfare to Florida.. I can probably hook you up with a hotel room for a couple nights.

Los Anchorage! Yeah, yeah I know it's not the same AK as 'the bush.' I did frequent the peninsula when my family ran a guide business (years ago) and I began teaching in Palmer, so I've had my share of rural life. Currently I teach at Service High School (Language Arts/Acting/Play Production). Hmm, I could have sworn there was one other PC poster who is from Alaska...
Again, congrats!

Thanks everyone! I lived in Anchorage for my teen years, graduated from Dimond. Had my fun there and got out to the quiet country life at a good time.
As far as honeymoon not sure...can't really afford it since all the extra cash I have right now is going towards the purchase of a house.
house>honeymoon but It'll be a good excuse to hit Hawaii in a couple years.

Okay that's pretty eerie, I graduated from Dimond too! But uh, checking your birthdate, about 8 years before you. Yes, I'm one of those oldies...The fact that I'm teaching at Service still makes me feel a bit of the traitor. We had our 20th this last summer. Good times.
Ah, I remembered the other poster, I believe it is the player of Turgen (ranger). Last I talked with him, he was up in the Fairbanks area.

Hah that's ironic. Dimond/Service rivalry has got to be the biggest high school rivalry in Anchorage. I used to really dig goin to the football and hockey games.
Alas, I'm sad that Dimond was torn down. I missed that old, pieced together, leaking, cold as hell school. The new one looks awesome though.
