So, unfortunately my wiki page with lots of my information got blanked. Apparently you all are too stupid to follow instructions to avoid bugs and therefore must have the information hidden from you, with cryptic warnings of serious (yet avoidable) bugs. Needless to say I am pretty pissed. Anyway, here are my basic findings (if there is a way to get the non-blanked page I would be really appreciative)

***MAJOR BUGS*** These will be repeated in their respective sections, but as always warnings should come first.

*Pre-vise dyeing
***Dyeing the blade/head/etc of a weapon will cause it to be viewed as STEEL, in all attributes (weight, enchant, breakage). See Footnote *1 for more info
***Dyeing an unfinished (rough) piece will cause that item to be UNUSABLE. You can't finish (polish it) because it's dyed, and you can't vise it because it's unfinished.

***MINOR BUGS***
*pre-vise dyeing
***Colors are very inconsistent in what shows up on the pieces prior to vising. All colors WILL be reduced to root color upon vising.
***The way the color/material format turns out is different for perfect and sub-perfect pieces. I am pretty confident in how perfects will display.

*post-vise dyeing
***adding the "perfect" descriptor back on a weapon after dying it a color can result in a typo occurring some time after completion. This has no mechanical effects and can be quickly fixed with an assist.
***If doings dye + additional detail, like a weapon alter box or etching, the dye MUST be done first. Otherwise the handle will need to be ground off again to accept the dye.

Ok, now on to the actual processes. For examples, I will be using my own weapon, A perfect walnut-hafted vultite morning star, and Shadowy Black Dye

Vocab
Blade=All heads,blades,etc.
Handles=All hafts,hilts,etc.
Piece= Either a blade or handle
Vise(ing)=The act of combining one finished blade and one finished handle on the vise to complete a weapon.
Polish/Finish= Taking an unfinished (rough) piece and "LEAN POLISH" in the workshop.
Dyes are from the dyer's tents, cobbling dyes do NOT work.

**PRE-VISE DYEING*** for looks I am speaking ONLY TO PERFECT FORGES, superiors and such are a crap shoot, and should not be assumed to match Perfects.

Both the Blade and Handle can be dyed prior to vising, but MUST BE FINSIHED (POLISHED) PRIOR TO DYEING ***SEE MAJOR BUG!!!***.
*On vising, ALL pre-vise dyes colors WILL be reduced to their root color. Blood red, cherry red, lava red, all are the exact same "red" upon vising a perfect.
*Handles dyed in this manner will have their wood descriptor REPLACED with the root color. "A perfect black-hafted vultite morningstar'
*Blades dyed in this manner will KEEP their metal descriptor but will be REDUCED to steel stats ***SEE MAJOR BUG!!!*** "a perfect walnut-hafted black vultite morning star"
*You can do both! "A perfect black-hafted black vultite morning star

***POST-VICE-DECORATIONS***
To make any post-vise alterations (dyes, weapon alter boxes, Japh's etchings) the handle of the weapon MUST be ground off at the polishing wheel "LEAN POLISH CLEAN". This can only be done by the ORIGINAL forger, and this step can not be undone, In my examples I would lose my sexy walnut-haft, and be left with "A perfect vultite morning star"

**POST-VISE DYEING*** This tends to be my preferred method as there are NO major bugs, and you only have to dye the completed perfect, and not all the attempts.

*First step, grind off the handle description "A perfect vultite morning star"
*Dye your weapon at the dyer's tent "a shadowy black vultite morningstar"

You can stop here if you like the color without the "perfect" descriptor
*Return to the forge and "LEAN POLISH PERFECT" to grind perfect back on, but loose the descriptor color "a perfect black vultite morning star". Sometimes after a few days it will revert to a typo of overlaying "shadowy" on "perfect"like "a perfectwy black vultite morning star.

***WEAPON ALTER BOX*** I know not everybody has em, but if want you can use mine for 50k (weapons only), or I will always do free work on all Ososis made weapons, or weapons you personally forged.

*First step, grind off that handle! Second step, DYE IT FIRST (if you want)
**GEMS**
*only 1 gem is needed
*MOST gems that do not read as "jewelry" are usable in either cut or uncut variations.
*Gems are set into the "handle" of a weapon, whatever that is based on weapon type (hilt/shaft/etc)
*"a perfect black vultite morningstar with a skull-shaped dragon's-tear ruby set into its haft"

**SKINS**
*Only 1 skin, of any quality, is required.
* Skin, hide, fur, pelt, scalp, work. Probably some others.
*skins are wrapped around the "handle" of a weapon, whatever that is based on weapon type (hilt/shaft/etc)
*"a perfect black vultite morningstar with a scraggly troll scalp wrapped around it's haft"

My brain is starting to moosh, so i am gonna call this good for now. I hope this is helpful to my fellow artisans!

*1 my first perfect was a perfect walnut hafted black vultite morningstar. Thats when I discovered the issue with it being steel. Wyrom graciously came down and stripped the dye (and spaced out morningstar to morning star). Pre-vise dyeing is no problem if doing handles, or steel projects. And really you can do it with any metal as long as you don't mind the added enchant time. Just be aware of it. I have done a few dyed mithril weapons because the buyer didn't care about the 1x lose but like the look. Which i understand. I really wanted black vultite and a walnut haft. I could only get that from pre-vise dying. :(

You can view page history on the wiki. Unless a page is deleted, you can always go back and look at changes.

instructions for basic wiki use are detailed in https://gswiki.play.net/Help:Contents

Okay, so maybe don't be so adversarial? The wiki had been having issues for over a week.

Okay, so maybe don't be so adversarial? The wiki had been having issues for over a week.

I spent a lot of time nailing down those bugs so I could explain how they can avoided and people can have something beyond "a perfect maoral-hafted garbage". Put as many warnings on it as you like, but to blank my page that details the problems I find super shitty. This isn't an issue with the page not being there, it's there, it's just been "blanked"

Here is what the wiki says:

There appear to be serious bugs when using dyed weapon parts in forging, especially blades, resulting in the final product turning into steel, not being enchanted, or other oddities. Consequently, this page has been blanked for the foreseeable future. If you have a weapon that was forged improperly as a result of dyeing the parts, put in an ASSIST or reach out to Mikos.

EDITED TO ADD:
The "you all are too stupid" line is a sarcastic comment I hoped would imply my distain for the parental hand-holding "abstinence" style of removing the information for your own protection. Forging is fun, and natural. But be smart, practice safe forging EVERY time.

So, obviously, as you can see, it appears the GMs are looking into this problem and that is who blanked it. Also, tone is lost on text, take it from another sarcastic personality.

Dyes in general have been pretty screwy for the last year or so
