My best gift was my father living through his congestive heart failure.

Everything else was just... things. I'm back home and I get misty eyed thinking about him the first day I say him (after I drove 27 hours to get there upon hearing about it),oxygen connected to his nose, IV's in both arms, his face all red and flustered looking, him obviously having problems breathing. I was shaken to the core.

The good news is, after 5 day sin the hospital (Christmas included :( ), this episode scared the shit out of him. Hopefully he'll follow through on the things he said he would. Like stop smoking. Walk every day (he walked 10 minutes on the treadmill I bought him for christmas -- it's great, checks his heartrate, and in tandem with antoher thing I got him checks his blood pressure and I forget what else). 10 Minutes. If he does that everyday, it'll be heaven on earth for me.

I'm not a praying man, though I am religious, and I pray he gets better. Thinking of life without him makes things a bit darker for me.
