If I have known you for 12 years, and you expect me to buy you a present, drive 300 miles, attend your wedding, pay for a night in a hotel, and drive 300 miles home with a bloody hangover...

Spell my name right on the invitation.

Jorddyn, peeved

Maybe they hired somone else to do the invitations? Wishful thinking I guess. That is pretty shitty though. :/ Sorry babe.

<poke> No, it's not Jorddyn. It's Tamara.

Additionally, his sister is my sister-in-law, so he certainly should know how to spell our last name.

Yet, both my first and last name were mangled on the invitation.

I just had to vent :) Thanks for the sympathy/smartass remarks. It made me giggle.

My last name gets butchered all the time, so I guess after 30+ years I got used to it. What I can't stand are people that can't pronounce my last name correctly (even though I've corrected them countless times) and STILL insist on addressing me by my last name even though I've asked them to just call me by my first since they obviously can't get my last name right. :flamed:

Oh jeeze, well, I lose.

Didn't mean to be TOO smartass...just thought that Jorddyn would be a tough spelling for a more common name.

Tamara...how do you mess that up?

Whenever I call tech support of a company (phone company or anything else) they always ask me to spell my first name - after I tell them it's Roberta.

I mean - how hard is that, that you need someone to tell you how to spell it? It's Robert, with an "a" at the end. Oddly enough when I explain that to them they actually get it. D'oh.

My last name is another matter entirely. Someone explain to me please..how someone can take this:

Ricciardi

and pronounce it:

Ri-char-del-li?

Where the fuck did they come up with the L, and the 4th syllable? I mean, okay, maybe people who have never been in the presence of a person of Italian descent might think "Ri-kee-ar-di" and I can accept this. But how many people do you know, who have never heard an Italian person's last name, to know that they spell stuff funny?

It's easy really - 2 c's followed by 2 vowels is pronounced CH, and the 2 vowels take on the sound of the 2nd vowel. There are no exceptions to the rule as far as I know. Italian is a very easy language because it's based off latin, which has very few (if any) exceptions to its rules.

I'm not italian, I'm German, Russian, and Latvian. And it didn't take rocket science for me to figure it out. Why then does it take supposedly educated people several attempts to get it right?

I really hate that. So yeah I feel for ya on this. Poke'em in the eye with a pencil that has your name spelled correctly on the side. Maybe it'll sink in then.

I hate when people spell mine Robyn, Robbyn, Robbin, Reubin. (OMFG HATE)

I'm all like: 'LIKE THE BIRD U IDIOT' *mutter mutter*

Why did parents of the eighties feel they needed to be creative WITH THE NAME OF A BIRD. I constantly feel sorry for my generation.

I should totally name my kids one day Owwlllle and Bluebaird`e.

Man, the first thing I thought when I saw this topic was "damn, that's a hell of an error to make during orgasm"

Then I saw it was in off-topic.

That sucks :( People always butcher my last name and often my first. For some reason, a lot of people want to spell melissa with two l's or one s. I think it may just be the toxic aftershock of some great chemical spill erroding intelligence.
