Hey you other introverts!

I'm planning on taking a cross-country adventure, driving from Washington D.C. to Napa, California from March 26-April 1st.

My primary route will be taking me through the following states:

Virginia
Maryland
Pennsylvania
Ohio
Indiana
Illinois
Iowa
Nebraska
Colorado
Wyoming
Utah
Nevada
California

Currently seeking other party members to partake this adventure.... Just kidding.

Seriously though, hoping to get some good advice on where to stop/ sleep /visit/ sight see/ what to eat/ see... I would also like to meet all my fellow other GS players! (I'm only slightly weird, I can be vouched by a few people who already met me IRL.)

Hope to hear and see you guys soon!

-James

Columbus is a great city. Stop and get a cup of coffee at the local chain Cup O' Joe and go to the Short North for good food, art galleries, and Jeni's ice cream.

Oh, good! You'll still be in VA when I visit in 1.5 weeks. Anyone for Vapiano's?

Driving through Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming (eastern), Utah, and Nevada will make you want to kill yourself. Go south along the Gulf, that way you only deal with Texas.

West Texas into New Mexico is pretty shitty.

Make plans to see the Grand Canyon is about the best I can say. There are also Bryce Canyon and Zion Park.

If you go through Chicago get some pizza. Just Google a place near your location with a 4-5 star rating and you should be alright.

It is, but the speed limit is higher so you can burn through it a little quicker. I'm assuming he's going I-80, ain't shit along there.

True enough, looks like he's planning the I-80 route. Would be worth the extra couple hundred mile detour to get on I-90 in Chicago, once you hit the Missouri river valley in S. Dakota the landscape is amazeballs. S. Dakota is also 80 mph and he would be passing through the Badlands (there's also a minute man nuclear missile visitor center at this exit) and the Black Hills.

Still sounds like fun man, enjoy.

Yeah, definitely going to make a detour for Chicago.

Just unsure where else to detour. Really looking for decent/safe places to stay overnight mainly.

Already done Virginia to Houston then Houston to San Jose... (Two separate trips though)

If you're going by lake Tahoe, check out emerald bay, fifty fifty brewing, or steamers bar and grill for their Parmesan crusted tacos

If you want some company, and can figure out an estimated itinerary, I could probably swing a few days on road, hitch a jet back east at some point. Let me know. If not, let me know the details of the DE/MD/VA meetup.

I would think Lou Malnati's or Giordano's and he'd be good to go for deep dish.

Why stop in Napa when you can drive another 10-12 hours and get to Portland? :) I drove here from NY in 2010 but I took the southern route so hit almost none of the places on your list except Napa and DC, but I did visit Colorado later and Boulder/Rocky Mountain Natural Park is pretty gorgeous. It's not toooo far from I-80 ;)

In that order, far as pizza is concerned. Don't leave Chicago without hitting Bavette's or David Burke's for steak. For sushi, hit Juno, you'll find one of the finest sushi chefs in America by the name of BK. Buy him some sake and do (schedule) the omakase... so MF'ing good...

Dry aged ribeyes at Burke's.. I second that. I would also highly recommend Xoco's if you like Mexican cuisine. The crispy pork belly soup is simply divine.

If you are driving something with decent ground clearance. This was a fun scenic drive I did while I was in Salt Lake City. Skyline drive from Farmington to Bountiful. Skinny little one lane with sharp switch backs. The turns and passing other cars will get your adrenaline flowing.

Here's where I went up. Good views back down in to the SLC valley from the top of the switchbacks. http://goo.gl/TbKX4X

If you have time while in Fort Collins check out the old missile silo. You need to make a reservation. http://www.discoverweld.com/MissileSitePark.html

If you like beer quite a few breweries up there. I recommend Odells.

If you take I-70 stop in Idaho Springs and get some Beau Jo's pizza. They make it with mineral water.
