I've been working with the gameobj-data.xml file for several months now and just today nailed down syntax to add source categories for gems found in Gemstone - regional, quest, digging, merchant, etc.
One of the issues I've found is that there are a fairly large number that are excluded from the gem category and listed elsewhere as ebongate and/or valuable. There are also a fair number of normal, jarrable gems such as the talons and fangs from the Rift, and non jarrable items like petrified mammoth tusks from Icemule, which, while sellable at the gemshop, are listed in non-gem categories. I wanted to know if there is any mechanical reason for this (other than someone not wanting to, well, update it the way I'm currently doing it). I don't use ;sloot or ;loot-be-gone or ;gemhoarder (or any number of other scripts that might use such categories to do stuff), so I don't know if changing how these items are categorized will break them.
While the updates I'm working on are for my own personal use, I'd like it to be as useful as possible for others as I can make it.
Thanks!
