View Full Version : Warrior Self Sufficiency Question

Is it normal for a warrior to not be able to hunt at level without spells? With spells I can hunt at my level and even a little above (she is 18 at the moment). Completely spell-nekkid though, I can't fight anything above ~16ish. Probably would help more if I could stance dance better, but I suck at it. My original concept for my warrior is I wanted her to be at least somewhat self sufficient. I know that isn't entirely possible, but I wanted to be able to at least hunt at my level without needing to hunt down spell-ups all the time. I am thinking now I might have been better off with a Paladin for that, especially since she is a giantkin who uses tower shields.

I usually hunt with spells. I learned berserk early as I feel that helped. I used to stance dance when I didn't have spells. I use a maul and go to town berserking and have probably for 40 to 50 levels now. However I know I would have a hard time with things my level without spells if I couldn't berserk. NOt sure that really helps with your question though

Low level warrior is rough. I'd say the tough times are now until 30 or so. Once you hit 30ish you'll start to get redux and the armor you will be wearing will offer better protection.

I'd hunt wraiths in WL then around 19 or so hunt arch wights in IMT. Feint and strike. Zombies in low 20s, they have about a 10-11 sec try so easy stance dance. And once mid to high 20s rotting corpses in varunar are 32 and have about a 12-14 sec rt

Definitely gets better as you get more shield use/dodge under your belt. At that level just focusing on stance dancing is best, though. As you gain levels wtrick feint, shield bash etc will help control the fight even more.

You might try picking up parry mastery, block mastery, and use tortoise stance. They won't help your DS directly, but you should see a bump in your E/B/P, especially if you stance down from offensive a little.
In the guild I'd work on tricks. That will give you access to feint as well as stance perfection.
To help with stance dancing I'd set up some macros and/or a few ;alias within lich to automatically change your stance before you attack, feint, ambush, etc, and another that puts you back into defensive.

30 is the magic number for warriors, finally getting enough cmab points to really be a warrior. On the note of cmans, combat mobility rank 1 can make a huge difference in getting ground pounded. Wish I had trained it sooner.

Being selective about what you hunt will also aid you in being self-sufficient. Researching what a critter swings against your armor type within your level range can turn the tide in your favor until you get the redux pumping ( my warrior got it at level 16 but didn't blossom until the magical 30 range ).
Time is your ally, in all things. A fully successful feint puts your foe in 8 seconds of RT and is in full offensive, and you can combine that with another item to assist until you can DF something to death. Feint + Disarm or Bellow = 28 seconds of RT ( insert sman argument person who uses them here ). I haven't played with a shield since the new ish came out, as my warrior was TWC morning stars from 0 to just now over 10 million experience, and is completely self-reliant to this day.
To help self-reliance, you may want to consider going armor reinforcement instead of the ever popular support to reduce wound stacking. Disregard if GoS because determination is a world changer for a warrior.
