View Full Version : Clothing makers are pissing me off.

So I went and bought some new shirts for work. Collared, short sleeve shirts (polos, golf shirts, whatever you want to call them) and it seems the trend for clothing companies today is to make the arms on these shirts small so that little no meat having muffins can wear them and still look like they have guns because they are tight in the arms. That and in order to fit my chest and shoulders I'm buying XXLs now so they are like damn tents around my waist, so much extra fabric I have to take them to my tailor and have them cut to trim them down.
The second problem I can live with the but the first is really annoying. If you want to look like you have arms go get some. I put on these shirts and by the end of the day I have solid red rings around my arms where the bands are. That and I can't pull the sleeves all the way down, they just don't fit, they stop just above my biceps.
I've only found a few shirts that have decent size armholes and I wear them constantly and whenever I find them I buy them in quanity but it's a tough search.
Also why are shirt makers getting 2XL and XXL confused?! 2XL is supposed to be cut in such a way that the shoulders and chest are large as well as the mid section, XXL is supposed to be large through the chest and shoulders with a tapered mid section yet all the XXLs I find are still huge through the gut!
It just makes me scared because I've toned down my lifting for the last little bit and I decided to get heavy into it again started Monday, I've got the playlists, the clothes, new kicks, new gloves, etc I'm ready to do it hard again and now I'm thinking if I do I'm going to start having to go to work just wearing a pair of cargo pants, belt and shoes....

Where are you shopping at anyway?
The only store I have that problem at is Banana Republic.

Heh, here's the thing...
With Banana Republic, *I* have trouble with their shit being too tight, and I'm a whopping 176 lbs right now.
Express -- you have to have no ass to be able to wear their jeans, and their sweaters (while nice) stretch very easily. Good button downs though.
I like Jos. A. Banks for shirts I would wear to work. Why are you buying short sleeve shirts now anyway?

I doubt you'd hear much complaining coming from the ladies.

I've given up on Banana Republic, J.Crew, Gap, all the trendy stores that design clothes for sub 6' 160lb nancy boys. I've never even seen an XXL at these stores. buying a dress shirt is almost impossible as well. Try to find somthing that looks nice and fits an 18 1/2 neck.
I have no problem getting pants to fit, but shirts are an eternal struggle. I guess it could be worse, we could be living accross the pond, where XXL there is like our XL here.

I have similar problems with pants, its too tight around the taint region, my sticks and berries have no room to roam. I have to pull my pants down like the yos to be comfortable.

Banana/Gap/Old Navy = same company, so if you have problems with one, you'll likely have problems with all of them.
You may have to bite the bullet and go to a decent men's dept. at a dept. store.

I don't wear my good clothes to work because what I do is hard on clothes. So I won't be going and dropping real money on clothing for this job.

Do what I do and stick to department stores. Can't go wrong with Polo, Tommy, and Nautica.
The problem for me, is that I am pear shaped, with sticks for arms and legs protruding from my body.
In conclusion, I am wearing a waste 34 pair of skinny ass Guess pants with an unmatching American Eagle (hey, that's a good store!) black shirt.

I have the same problem no matter where I go.
I have to buy jeans in a 38 and get them tailored to a 33 just so I can maintain leg circulation. Shirts are pretty much the same thing. Buy triple or quad Xs and have the mid-section and collar tailored in.
I've been shopping at maybe 4 big and tall shops and it doesn't matter. I'm tall, but not that tall. I'm big ... but not big like these designers have in mind.
Pants and shirts, buy either and tack 30 bucks on to the price for tailoring.
I feel your pain.

Those are completely owned by Banana Republic, Old Navy, and GAP.

Don't make me slap the hell out of you Arkans. It's all about Tommy,Polo and DKNY. Tossing in the occassional Sean Jean. Now if you want to look like a complete jackass, well....we know where I'm going with this one, so I'll let it be.
D
I hate Tommy
Polo is good
DKNY I have to give you credit on.

I'm going to guess a few of the girls (including myself have similar problems).
I'm 23 years old. I still enjoy wearing the cutsey/sexy baby-t's that Guess, Hollister, etc sell. Problem is, their LARGE....is designed for an 34-B sized female. SOOOO, if I finally manage to struggle into one of them, my breasts are squashed down to my body and I look like an over-stuffed sausage.
I've finally come to grips with Hollister and no longer buy shirts from them. Though they do have the nicest fitting jeans...you never saw an ass look so good in denim, baby.
Lately (when I can actually afford clothes!) I go to the mega cheap places like Charlotte Russe where I can drop 100 bucks and get 5 tops instead of just 1.
Am I the only one who enjoys wearing , and does on a daily basis, jeans and T-shirts? They fit quite nicely. Although yea unless you spend alot of money dress clothes SUCK!

I do but not for work. At work I have to have a decent shirt and no jeans since quite often I'm dealing with clients/customers. My dress clothes won't see work since even though I'm supposed to dress nice I still do alot of crawling around fishing wire, fixing machines under desks, etc and I just don't feel like trashing my good clothes.
I need to just find a polo shirt with big arm holes and I'll be happy. I guess I could let my arms get smaller but that's just a dumb idea.

I do, but I'm starting to discover that looking nice looks nice (who knew???). So if I'm going to the gym later or something, I'll probably be in a t-shirt, because more than one shirt a day is a waste. But otherwise, I'm starting to dig the pretty clothes.
In summer, of course, all t-shirts, all the time.

JCPenney. www.jcpenney.com. Both of my husbands were big and built with small waist, athletic, chest and arm heavy. They have killer stuff in online outlet. They have tailor made pants with waist you tell them inseam, ditto for shirts. You can go into JCPenney store men's department, they'll measure you, and fit to order and it's not expensive at all. They do long torso, inseams proper, chest, arms, etc. And, they don't charge for the fitting, and their stuff is high quality and very reasonable.

Jesae is right. It's not only guys who have this problem. I've seen dresses I'd kill to wear, but I can't wear dresses. I have to wear separates because, if the waist fits, the bloody dress won't button! Even wearing separates, it's difficult to get slacks or skirts to fit in the waist without being too tight in the hips. If I want a tailored fit in a top, I have to buy it too big and have it altered to fit.
In conclusion, off-the-rack sucks!

I feel the pain. I used to be "lanky" when I was around 13 years old; decent height for my size, curvy but slender. I stopped growing in height around the same year, but continued filling out. So now I'm what they call "full-figured petite."
Big boobs, broad hips, short, and delicate bone structure with very narrow, rounded shoulders. I can't wear anything with spagetti straps - they won't stay up. I can't wear a normal bra, I have to get the ones with the "stay-up" straps, or a T-back, and T-backs are impossible to find in a 34-D. So is anything "pretty." I have to wear those "eww mom that's so icky looking" things for full-figured women because I just plain fall out of the Victoria's Secret stuff.
I also can't wear button-down shirts. At all, ever. If they fit the shoulders, the buttons pop at the boobs. If they fit the boobs, the shoulders usually rest halfway to my elbows.
Polo shirts? Heh. I wear a men's medium because womens' sizes are designed for flat-chested women. And I just live with the "short sleeves" looking more like "three-quarter" sleeves.
So much for being a tiny little wisp of a nothing huh? If I lost enough weight to make me look anorexic I'd be a perfect fit for a size 4. If I lost enough weight to be healthy for my height and bone structure, I'd still look stupid in petite clothing, even though I -am- petite according to every definition except bust and hip size. If I gained enough weight to qualify for "big womens'" clothes (X-large, or anything over size 16), I'd end up spending more money getting things shortened than the cost of the clothes themselves.
No pity for whoever complains about polo shirts not fitting their arms, but certainly empathy. Been there, done that, can't even find the T-shirt in my size.

Heh. I hear you, Jazuela. While I'm not short at 5'6", I wear the same bra size as you do, but have a 23" waist and 36" hips. I also have the narrow shoulders and very delicate bone structure (Thanks, mom! ). As a result, I absolutely abhor shopping for clothes.
Thankfully, I've found a wonderful seamstress who puts up with my angst and makes a lot of my things for me at a very reasonable price. She's a blessing for those of us who are built upside-freaking-down! :D

I'm a little more err filled out..than that.
At 5'3" (well, almost, by maybe 1/4 inch!):
35 on top with an almost-DD cup size
28 middle (I'm 43, I'm allowed to have a bit of a belly, damnit)
38 around the tush and hips.
The sick thing is, under that soft belly is a rock-solid abdomen. There's no lack of muscle at all - it's just covered with a squishy layer of fat.
And my legs are sorta like that too. "Healthy" thighs (according to my hubby who wishes I had saddle-bags because he thinks they're sexy), and yet I can do seated leg press set at 230 pounds without breaking a sweat.
Go figure.
