Hello Elanthia!

New characters will no longer receive a 30-Day Fast Skill Migration period. Instead, all characters will now receive fast skill migration until they reach level 20. In addition, when you have almost reached level 20, you will now be required to confirm that your skills are set to your desired values. You will not be able to earn any additional experience until you have given this confirmation. Enjoy!

That is badass! I always hated the 30 day deadline because I get busy some weeks and not busy other weeks, but I felt forced to get in as much playtime during that first 30 days and other areas of my life would struggle because of that.

I'd rather they made it - First 30 days or level 20, so those of us who can achieve higher than level 20 in the first 30 days are not "penalized". It's easier to change a caster to pure when you get to 25 (especially sorcerers and wizards for 425), and keep them swinging weapons. I've managed to get to 32 in 30 days on a couple of characters, so it's not a very "useful" change for power-hunters and min-maxing players.

I agree. That does make sense to have it both ways. I wonder if they could implement something where you can click a link and sign up for fast 30 day and another link for fast 20 levels.

Or maybe just making it level 25 would be an easier compromise.

Good change.

If you have a new character that's currently in a 30-day migration they should still receive that time, though you will still be required to give confirmation I mentioned before you can reach level 20. Any characters created from today moving forward will not have the 30-day option, the fast skill migration will only last until you reach level 20.

You don't get your cool spells and skills to play around with on many professions to decide if you want to go that route until 25 IMO.

That's what free fixskills are for. Does this allow the 5 free fixstats to be available until level 20 too?

They confirmed on the officials that the 5 free fixstats are still limited to the first 30 days. It's only the skill migration that is changed, but it is a retroactive change - any character under L20 now has the fast skill migration until L20.

Not sure why they wouldn't allow at least 1 fix stat after the first 30 and prior to you reaching 20 if they made this change to begin with.

Also, something I think I'll post about on the officials: What about 2-3 different pre-loaded stat options? You could choose Max at 50, Max at 75, Max at Cap, or DIY. So instead of someone having to figure out exactly how to max their stats at level 50, 75, and Cap, Simu has already done the calculations for that for all race and profession combinations and added it as an option for you to choose. You could still have the option to tweak your stats off of those pre-set levels to allow for customization, or the player could simply choose the DIY option and stat placement would work the same as it does today? Good idea? Bad idea? Also, if you could add that, why not add a free fixstat at levels 50, 75, and cap? I don't see a need to force someone to pay money or grind out bounties just to be able to earn a fixstat if you've made it to those levels in the game.

Makes sense to me. At least the part about the auto-suggested stats. Giving away a bunch of free fixstats would hurt the player economy. I'm not 100% against it, but it would likely face some push back.

This is a fucking amazing change... as someone who can barely get a character to 10 in 30 days, having until level 20, instead of a time frame is absolutely awesome! (And, yes, I realize I may be doing things "wrong" if I can't get a character to 20 in thirty days. I don't care. :P )

Possibly. I've never sold a fixstat, but could certainly use the 16m if I had one and didn't need it. Maybe just one free one at cap as recognition for capping. I know it's likely you'd have earned a free one by then anyway with all the AG tasks, but maybe there's people out there who don't use the AG as much as others and deserve a free one for capping anyway.

I think this is a big driver for simplicity and success with new players. I think these are foundational for some of their bigger ideas in 2017 with player growth.

Krakii from the officials...
"After I create a new character, I put a reminder in my Palm Pilot of when the 30-day period is up"

I know a lot has been said about him here and the stuff he posts about, but man, that just took it to a whole new level for me.

My sides were briefly in orbit, but then I realized I'm still playing a 27 year old MUD.

You are :D But, as someone who can easily get at least 25 in the first 30 I still think it's overall a good change. Obviously I would prefer the extra time, but it's like whatever. Really not that big of a deal in the grand scheme and definitely better for you nubs :D

Now I don't have to exile other characters on my account for a full 30 days if i decide to make another alt, an atill at least login whoever I want to gift and not lose out on anything. So that's nice.

My Palm Pilot is the closest I'll ever get to the Mile High club.

I do not believe you should be giving anything "for free" (other than a lightning bolt) for capping.

I guess I don't see paying for a sub and putting in the time and effort to cap and getting a fixstat for it as getting it for free.

Plat gives a few level related perks (titles). I wouldn't mind that process filtering into Prime, though perhaps nothing with mechanical benefit.

Why stop just at a fixstat? Why not reward every person that's cap 100 million silvers and a million Bp?

Why not play GS with your monitor turned off since apparently it's too easy right now for everyone?

.. do I get a bonus for pretty much already doing this? (Considering I'm blind and basically have robo-voice reading me the game output.) Ha.

And more on topic - I probably could get a new character to L20 in 30 days if I really tried, though I'd have to basically stop playing all my other characters and focus solely on the new one. Which I don't do and thus the best I usually do is like L13/L14 by 30 days being up.

I've actually done the 30 day slog a few times within the last year or two. I typically ended up right around 20 with a good amount of playing. I could see a dedicated player using outside help for bounties and the like pushing past that point quite regularly. Unless the purpose of this change is in part an attempt to curb this behavior, it'd be nice to have the update modified to accommodate players who can push beyond 20 in 30 days.

getting to 25 with no outside help is perfectly doable, especially with the new gift. takes a lot of hours, obviously, but it's not difficult. if you get on that sweet, sweet dreavening train, even easier.

getting to ~30 you need help foraging (or are a hax ranger and switch your skills over to full sruvival/perception as needed), and a decent stockpile of gems to start.

5 gifts (use your lumnis to reschedule for the 5th) is over 100k experience now. That's 20% of the exp needed to get to 20 by itself, not even counting the base exp you earned to get the gift and any bounty turn ins you get along the way. Finishing gift, sprite, thrak, level 0 visits puts you at level 6 now, which really helps pures get out of those kinda painful first 2 or 3 rat levels with your 10 weapon skill.

this is genius. GSIV is already so needlessly complex - something like this would be such a great quality of life option.

Does anyone know if this was applied to characters already rolled and sub 20 or does it only apply to brand new rolled characters? Because if so I was 3 weeks too early on my little cleric

All characters under 20.

Donquix
01-14-2017, 02:19 PM
all under 20

If your 30 days expired, you will get fast mitigation again until you reach level 20.

If you're in your 30 day still, you will get prompted to SKILLS CONFIRM when you hit <= 1k until you reach 20 and your exp gain freezes until you do. After you accept, you'll start gaining exp normally again. You can still migrate skills until the end of your original 30 day period (confirmed, i had a character midflight I can still migrate post-20)

I went back and discussed this with the rest of the development team and we have decided to extend the 5 free stat reallocates until level 20 too. This change should also work retroactively, so if you have unused stat reallocates and are still under level 20, you should be able to use them by checking in at your local inn.
