I have a 40-ish monk and I left a couple years ago, got that itch, hope to return soon. I've been doing some reading and it seems like the big changes since I left are the addition of meditation and some changes to Mstrike with unarmed. Did those two changes made a appreciable difference in monk-life? Or if there something I've missed can you clue me in so I can read up on it?
Thanks

Adding mstrike to UAC was a game changer for monks. I highly recommend training in it as much as feasible as soon as you can (at least up to 55 ranks).
Meditate is great, because it's free damage resistance. It's enhanced by training in mental lore: transformation (which is our staple lore).
Also, there are some cmans that monks inherently do not need to be armed to use now (such as disarm.)
Also, if it matters, cloth armor is freely alterable now, whereas before robes were pretty much the norm.
I think you'll find playing a monk infinitely more enjoyable with these changes as opposed to the old days.
All the details are on the wiki, but feel free to ask specific questions here or find me in game.
Welcome back!

echoing what Rowmi said. Fixing mstrike to work with UAC was a huge change. I'd still put monks on the bottom of the balance totem pole, but now they're at least in the ballpark. Previously they were out of park, down the street, somewhere over the horizon
mm.... changing kifocus was another notable change. now it basically gives a free tierup at 3 ranks, instead of just a bonus to AS/UAF.
