View Full Version : Hot Laptop!!! HPEL!!!111

I have an pwnerific laptop. Pentium 4, 2.6 gigz, real ub3r and stuff.

The problem is, it gets ridiculously hot in a ridiculously short amount of time. The fan works, but it just gets real hot. AFter a while, the thing reboots itself if I run a GS script or anything and won't run until I give it time to cool off.

It seems gaming is out of the question (It's so powerful too!) and the only way to use it for extended periods of time is it elevate it..

What can I do?!?!?!?/1/1/1 HPEL!!!!

Targus makes a laptop fan that connects to the bottom of it to help from overheating. 30 bucks at Office Depot.

Get a can of compressed air and blow all the dust out of it, your fans are being blocked and there is probably dust on the heatsink.

Don't rest if on a flat surface it restricts air flow to the fan which is on the bottom. Prop up the edges with books so it's still level but there is a passage for airflow under the middle.

Also they make laptop pads which run coolant and you set the laptop on top keeping it cold.

Who makes your laptop?

Laptops are known for overheating but for a newer model it should not be hitting a heat level where the cpu shuts down to prevent damage.

How misleading....when I saw the subject for "Hot Laptop" I thought you finally gave in to your darkside and stole it. I'm so disappointed.

like someone said above

Targus Laptop Cooling Pad (1/2 inch thick - goes right under your laptop, has 2 fans built in to it)

$30.

I've used mine for almost 6 months.

I'm about to keep this one at work and get the $40 targus one that comes with a piece on the side for your mouse.

OD?

Would OD charge me more then $2.16 shipping? Because I was just going to grab one at walmart/target next time I'm there.

Found some on TigerDirect.com. Prices range from $19 to $40. I have the Targus model with 2 fans and it works great for my laptop, the only issue is I would like to find a way to secure it to my laptop so when I move or lounge on the couch it wont shift and slide out from underneath the bottom of the unit.

If compressed air doesn't work, I'm going for the unit. The laptop never had this problem, but developed it, so I think it might be dust. If it continues, eh, I'll get myself a decent $40 or something.
