Mechanically CoL is near perfect and has some great powers, but suffers in some regards when it comes to RP. Sure it is hand-waved away as a secret society, but I'd like to try and change that to some degree. I'll start this off by saying I have not reached out to any GM's, I've simpled thought up an idea and started going with it and I am basically looking to get enough people involved that either have a bit of fun or maybe the idea is picked up by a GM or two and it gains legs. The way I see CoL is that they use the spirit of themselves, or ideally others, to power their abilities. Mechanically, we know it takes spirit to power our abilities and that in the bigger picture what happens. But what is that all for ? I'd like to think that the bits of spirit give up/taken are to then be used for greater magic or creation of things like soul golems or other devices powered by bits and pieces of spirit from living beings. To that end, it would make sense that just as Voln looks to gain favor by releasing the souls of the undead, CoL looks to gain power by acquiring the spirit of the living. It does this by trading powers to the willing, as members have come to learn, mostly. That brings up the idea I posted about. A method to "farm" spirit from the living...
I am looking to discuss further RP of and the near future RP event of trying to corrupt a spell imbedded into cobbling settings that will be donated to the refugees of Talador to try and slowly drain bits of their spirit for the council. I have also started the discussion of storage of said spirit and other methods of "harvesting" parts of the spirit from the unwilling. This could lead to other events of gathering rare materials, rituals etc. I also started kicking around the idea of a loosely organized group within CoL that looks to serve the society more so than normal members might. I was thinking a name such as "The Children of the Kraken".
So, in the short term, I am looking for Clerics (prefered CoL members) to participate in and help loosely plan (I think a bit of improv in RP goes a long way to the enjoyment of if and makes it more realistic by RPing off mistakes etc) a ceremony to create the first attempt at "farming" spirit.
In my wildest dreams - I've seen a possibly really neat opportunity to have a bit of Voln vs CoL event where each side tries to either harvest spirit or prevent the process of. I know at least one person who posted that their character wouldnt stand ideal if they knew such a thing was happening, I'm sure there is plenty more. And any good CoL member should rally to further the society's interests! I feel I may have put too much into this thread but we'll see what sparks a discussion and where it goes!

It's interesting stuff. I always liked a lot of the old Rolemaster hooks to COL and some of the stuff past Solhaven gurus did.

Make sure the people actually are CoL members... You'll need to either be out of the public(There are a few hard to get to, rarely traveled to spots you can use), or doing most of your communication with signal. The assassin exists for a reason.

Yes, I actually spent time looking through the Kraken Manor today. I should also make a trip out to the sewers as well since I've never seen them. Signalling to confirm will be a factor for sure, but the rituals may need to be done in places of greater power ? Something to discuss for sure.

There are tons of hidden(ish) Lornon shrines around. I'd think those could be areas of greater power.
And of course, inside a CoL lodge itself. I think they have "meeting rooms" in them? I can't remember.

I like the idea of this a lot. Just made a wee cleric there (literally a forest gnome) and was thinking of going lornon and CoL with him. Just need to decide on a diety really.
This could be fun. The assassins will always be on watch, however. I also am thinking of one of my COL characters that would NEVER do this, at least not for real. In her head, she had already lost her soul. so joining COL was nothing to her. She didn't feel worthy of any other society. However, that said, she constantly does good deeds and would maybe join to undermine, just because she hates the society (I will roleplay her out of there, eventually). Which could be a lot of fun, also. Lots of backstabbers in COL. I bet the struggle for power, in whatever group you create, would open up some roleplay. There is potential here, I think.

In ESO I was in a few Vamp/Werewolf groups. Werewolves are a pack, and the strongest is the Alpha. We had to make some rules on the challenging the Alpha. It is way too annoying for the constant challenges when you are trying to run something. We ended up making it a ceremonial position with OOC ranks that actually ran things behind the scenes. The OOC leader was generally the Alpha anyways though.

I have a rough frame work of an idea that could last a good bit with our without GM involvement. It could lead to some fun stuff either way I THINK. Not sure how player driven story lines like this have ended up in the past.

Oh yeah of course, that's not gonna happen though. At least that's not any part of the plan. Of course if some other member decides to do that, well thats on them alone.

Thanks for this, I was reading the assassin documents you guys have, great stuff!
During simucon I asked Retser about CoL on the stream and he sent the assassin after me. I should scrounge my logs for the messaging, was good stuff.
I'm going to set this for 8pm eastern in the assembly room down in the basement of Kraken Manor (it doesn't have a room number) and I'll post an IC message on the officials for non PC people to get involved/attend.

I would like to include as many people who are interested in doing so. I will try to vary up times if we get people spread across time zones to allow people to come in and out as they see fit and will strive to provide a copy of what is going on in some form. Either a cleaned up log or a short summary similiar to what I have been posting on the boards already.

It's really a shame they didn't decide to keep and modify the origin behind CoL when gemstone de-ICE'd. The cult of the iron wind and the unlife backstory would've made the whole society so much deeper, and a hell of a lot darker.

A lot of the Althedeus/anti-Lornon and Arcane Eye stuff always seemed very CoL influenced to me or would be easy to adopt as influenced by it. It helped that they summoned demons a TON.

The assembly room in Kraken Manor Can be found down in the wine cellar.
The specific room is unmapped, but the outside room is : 4594.
From there, "Go door" will get you into the assembly room.

I'd put a 3 week timer on your logs so it doesn't impact current events after the first one and yea, redact names.

I was thinking I can put the raw logs here since it is entirely OOC. It is a simple process to run a find and replace against the log I have to remove names if people feel that might be worthwhile as well. I'll hold off on posting the raw log for now.
On the officials, I will continue to write from Ordim's perspective and leave out names and specifics.

Ordim looked out upon the floor of the assembly room and nodded with approval. A reasonable number of brothers and sisters had answered his call and now took up spots around the room. Cushioned chairs were partnered with small tables that dotted the room. A raised dais held a podium and several more chairs at the head of the room. Intermittent crystal tones chimed out as the crystal chandelier above sparkled like stars in the night against the navy blue carpeting. Ordim gave one last look around the room and out the door before he began explaining his reason for the gathering.
A brief summary of the events of Chaston’s rise and fall opened the meeting. It was the ending that was the most important. Or perhaps what might be called the beginning to some.
“Those who are without homes, lost and powerless, begging for any assistance they can find, now gather in untold numbers. Not far from here a camp has been built to aid the refugees with the basics of life. It is this camp, as well as other locations where the refugees will be gathered, that may serve us two-fold.” He paused for a moment as he surveyed the crowd, some of whom began to guess where he was going and grinned to themselves.
“Firstly, the direct recruitment of those who are in need. Just as we were offered step by step, so shall the wanting refugees be offered a way to improve their lives... for a time.”
Whispers in the crowd were punctuated with a bored voice asking out loud. “What use would we have with the powerless and lost?”
“To give them direction, to mold them and shape them, to conscript them into our service.” Came the answer to the faceless voice. Sounds of approvals and a few nods seemed to give evidence that the answer was acceptable. “Useless fodder? As you like.”
Ordim cleared his throat and continued on, “The second method is my personally preferred method, and why I summoned those of the cloth specifically. I have already started forming a working relationship with those who run the camp not far from here. It would not be impossible to use this connection to come up with a means or method of “Farming” the spirit and power of those who look to receive aid.” The idea seemed to invigorate a few members as they sat up and took a new interest. Others immediately began asking questions such as “Will this require a level of discretion?”
“It is my hope that this method we might create would have no worse effect than to present as general depression.” Ordim’s lips curled into a devious grin. “And what refugee does not already look properly depressed?”
The group then began to discuss the various means with which they might succeed in “farming” the spirit from the unwitting refugees. Many of them revolved around the twisting and corruption of known spells from all circles of magic. “We could use alter the hands of the undead to appear as grass, brushing against the victims and snatching bits of their soul!” “What if we were to change the means by which we steal mana to steal spirit instead?” The ideas as varied and creative as could be hoped for. It was also identified that more research and perhaps a devout follower of the hidden knowledge might play their part in assisting with making such magic succeed.
Ideas were exchanged back and forth, plans made and altered on the fly as the night wore on. As the hour drew late the group agreed to meet again in a week’s time to put into practice some of their ideas. Over time they would employ as many as possible to ensure their success. More brothers and sisters would eventually be needed though. The word had to be spread to all that the Kraken had awoken, and he would protect all of his children who walked in the light.

Yes. This saturday at 8pm we will meet in the Assembly room of Kraken Manor in Solhaven.
We will follow up what we discussed and I would like to plan some form of ritual or get the ball rolling on implementing one of the ideas we discussed previously. The refugee camp storyline is starting to pick up in Solhaven so we may see some increased activity on a lot of fronts in Solhaven in general.

This coming Day of the Huntress the 27th of Lormesta at 9:00 pm by the Empire Standard of Time, Lord Salnim Malwind of Vornavis will be holding an open session of court, while his father Baron Dunrith Malwind is away visiting the Northern Sentinel in Lolle. Those with ties to Vornavis are invited and encouraged to attend, and all residents of the region and friends of the barony are welcome at court. The focus of this session will be on the ongoing relief effort in the North, and recent news pertaining to it.
The chamberlain of the court would also like to remind all those who would attend this session of court that proper attire and behavior will be required.
(OOC: The Court session will be on Friday 1/27 at 9:00 pm EST)
I also think there is a supply wagon tonight at 8 or 9pm ? no solid answer on that one.

A call to our Brothers and Sisters of the light. On Leyan, the 15th of Fashanos, we join together to further the council’s reach and power! May the light shine upon us, and the Kraken protect us.
OOC : Wednesday the 15th, 9pm Eastern any who wish to attend (CoL Masters) are invited to join a ceremony to create a vessel to capture the spirit syphoned from the refugees. We shall meet in the meeting room in the Kraken Manor of Solhaven and then leave for a secret outdoor location to complete the ritual.
