Apparently, mine has been on for three weeks. Jesus.

Mine starts to get sluggish after a few days of solid use. The benchmark I use: if I can't remember the last time I turned it off, I turn it off.

I generally turn it off every few days. When I was at UDel it would be on for weeks though, heheh.

Work laptop is shut down every day at the end of work and every night before I go to bed.

One PC at home stays on constantly. The other needs to be shut down once a day - I have some kind of memory leak and it gets low on virtual memory after a few hours.

2 weeks, or around that amount of time.

The last time the power went out.

My computer never sleeps.

Generally never. But I reformatted about a week and a half ago so.

I turn my computer off every night... I thought it was bad to keep it on.

My work computer has been on 169 hours. It normally always stays on unless I need to slave a drive or test/trouble shoot some user's components. I hook them up to my machine since I know it's good and the selective interchange begins!

I've gone over a month once. Oddly enough, I also somehow managed to stay signed onto Trillian through the entire time so it showed how long I had been on through the AIM servers.

Right now, though, only 9 hours. I rebooted this morning.

I turn mine off whenever I'm not using it, I figured it was better for some reason!

I also turn my off when I'm not at it. Seems silly to just leave it on.

Heh, I have a DG system at work that's been on and up continuously for three and a half years.

If you leave it on throughout the day and turn it off at night, that's cool. Turning it off and on all day wears it down, though.

That is what someone told me as well, it is harder on the computer to turn it on and off then to just leave it on. The only time mine goes off is when the power goes down. I just turn the monitor off and go to work and school.

Same here. It is better since you save energy and money.

It depends on how often you turn it on and off during the day. If you do it frequently, you actually spend MORE energy and money by booting the thing than if you just left the thing on and idled your monitor.

As for me, I turn it on at 6AM, and off around 11PM. During that time, I log off the internet when I'm going to work, and log back on when I come home, but keep the computer on for those few hours.

I don't trust my firewall if I'm not home to monitor it, heh. I figure the one day that I leave the computer logged online when I'm not home, will be the day someone actually manages to hack through my system.

Considering that I've had a computer since the days of DOS, before Windows was released, and I've never been hacked, I'd say it's been a good method.

How do you get it to show timers like in that screenshot on the first post? My task manager doesn't have the CPU TIME thing.

What could you have on your computer that a hacker would be remotely interested..is the main question.

Even if you have your credit card / bank info stored somewhere on your system, its a matter of worth vrs work. Why spend the time hacking into your system for 1 bank account / credit card..when they could hit someplace bigger and get hundreds, or thousands?

I run Windows ME. That should give you an impression of how often I restart my computer.

How in the hell did you ever manage to hunt in GS using Windows ME? I suspect it crashes for you at least once an hour ;)

As far as my computer the desktop has been up for about 3.5weeks this round; the laptop goes into sleep mode a lot but I cant think of when Ive ever restarted since I loaded windows on it.

Computers can be turned off? Next thing you're going to tell me is that I can play music, burn CDs and watch DVDs with that cup holder that comes out the front.....
