View Full Version : Steam Winter Sale
Fallen

The 2016 Steam Winter sale has started. It will run from today until January 2nd.
Steam Sales aren't quite as fun as they used to be due to the refund policy making Flash Sales pointless. Still, if you've been holding off on buying some new games on PC, now's the time!
Good Old Games (GoG) will be having a winter sale as well, starting Friday. They'll likely have the best deal on the Witcher franchise.
Post what (if anything) you buy!

I think it just stabilized, so I'm looking at Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Stellaris, Farcry Primal, and Master of Orion. Maybe R6: Siege if my buddy ever gets back to me about how much he plays it (I heard it's not good for pickup groups).

I would make sure to check Uplay for their price on Farcry Primal, as they might have a better offer.
Siege looks like it has a learning curve from hell, and yeah, I can imagine PUGs would get decimated by any team of people who regularly play together.

A few Cheap recommendations:
Risk of Rain (Roguelike platformer... super cheap at $2.50)
One Way Heroics (pixely RPG, super cheap at $1.74)
Factorio (Not on sale... yet, but $20)
XCom and XCom 2... You should already have these.
Gemcraft - Chasing Shadows (Really good Tower defense game... you probably played the original flash one, $2.50)
FTL: Faster than Light ($2.99)

Primal is $1 cheaper on Uplay but I'll gladly pay the difference to keep it updated through Steam.

Yeah, I tend to prefer things through steam even if it is slightly cheaper on other mediums for that reason. Also, bananramahamatron

Stellaris is an awesome game, btw. Buy the shit out of it and watch your clock go ahead 6 hours. MoO is fun too, but not nearly as complex. Play MoO first, because if you do Stellaris first, MoO feels featureless.

Not part of the Steam sale, but Humblebundle has a huge Sierra bundle going right now with Quest For Glory, Police Quest, Space Quest, King's Quest, Phantasmagoria, etc.

Damnit, I may have to get some of that. I played Quest for Glory as a little kid in it's original form when it was called "Hero's Quest" and there were no click options. It was the ultimate 'guess the command' game at that point, but I credit that game for making me love fantasy style games ever since.

Steam has that as well. I believe the prices would be pretty close to each other, but I have parts of the collection on Steam so it's a little more discounted than it would be otherwise. I've heard the Steam version on KQ7 doesn't work on anything but Win7 though.
Picked up the entire Quest for Glory series 1-5, and all the old X-COM games for under $10 last night on steam. I'm a pretty happy gamer right now.

Hammerwatch is super fun! It's a little dungeoncrawler with multiplayer capabilities, on sale for like $2.50. Blast to play with a friend for a couple hours.

It was down for a couple of hours when the next day of the sale was supposed to begin, around 10 AM PST. It was horrible, I had to start in offline mode *sob*

I purchased To the Moon and Salt and Sanctuary. Haven't gotten to the first game, but Salt and Sanctuary is fucking amazing. It is a 2D Metroidvania crossed with Dark Souls. If that sounds at all interesting to you, check it out. It is available on both PC and consoles.

Thanks for the info Fallen, it has now been purchased as well.
I picked up Remember Me, and Fallout 4. Remember Me reminds me of Batman:Arkham City, but not as gadgety, nor as free to explore. It's a lot of fun and for $6 why not? Only mistake I made was installing Fallout 4, now I am no longer playing Remember Me. I'll get back to it eventually.

Refunded To The Moon as it refused to display correctly. Beat Salt and Sanctuary. What a game!
Picked up Xanadu Next and Enter the Gungeon. I'm thinking i'm going to wait until I play Enter the Gungeon until the next big update is released.
Only 30 minutes left in the sale, so if you forgot to make your purchases, do so now.
