I was unpacking all my college shit today and I decided to get rid of a bunch of my lecture notes that I wont be using. As I came upon my Western Civ notes that I took my first semester freshman year, I found this list of essential qualities for a 30s fascist gov't as listed by my professor.

-use simple language & images
-conceal implications of ideology from mainstream
-appeal to ordinary people on the following issues: traditional morality, family values, patriotism, and religion
-portray nation as imperiled by mysterious, conspiratorial forces of evil
-attack intellectual opponents as enemies of the nation & ordinary people
-sustain powerful economic interests through government

Lecture date: Nov. 15, 2000

Truer words have never been spoken. I loved Western Civ. and apparently a certain someone paid close attention in their Western Civ. class also.
Speaking of old lecture notes, I refuse to get rid of mine which are now taking up an entire trunk I keep in my moms basement for storage. I just can't find the will to throw them out.

That's odd, my Western Civ instructor said anyone who was anti-Bush was a PINKO.

He didn't, but I wouldn't put it past him.

(so, yeah, another nonconstructive post.)

You're the first one to mention Bush in this thread. Do you see him as a fascist?

Yes.

After checking dictionary.com, as much of a fascist as someone can be in American government.
