So I've got a level 22 F2P sword and board cleric that I'm moving to my paid account. He was sword/board just to get him to level 22. I'm not a giant fan of sword/board, so I imagine I'd switch to one of the following...

Two-handed weapons
CS+spell aiming for 306 bolt
CS only

I like weapon swinging for the shear simplicity, and also to be able to combo with a 302 opening just to get some cheap damage then whack 'em to death or even 302 solely until I'm out of mana then be able to fall back on my sword.

Will not using a shield leave me too vulnerable with a lack of DS though?

I like the CS+spell aiming because again, it gives you a second option to fall back on if I'm hunting something living (he's got Smite) or if whatever I'm hunting has too high of TD for my CS.

I'm sure the opinions are varied, but I'd like to get some thoughts. He's a giantman. I'll post his stats. Not going to worry about posting his skills yet because I'll just fixskill him and they'll all end up being totally different.

I like the CS route for it's simplicity. I like the weapon swinging route for the role play aspect of it.

There are going to be very few creatures where your CS is going to be an issue if you actually train for it. Most people really don't though or only do so partially by stopping at +21 spells above level. From a mechanical stand point CS is the easiest path to advance with. Picking up anything else tends to be a role play decision which is perfectly fine and I am all for it, diversity makes things more interesting.

Being smite doesn't mean a whole lot because there are plenty of undead to hunt for a good while and it shouldn't be long before you can hunt using 312 and 317 depending on the society you are in.

If by not having a shield you mean using a runestaff instead your DS will be just fine. If you mean being adventurous and going empty handed without outside spells you'd find your DS lacking, but with them you could muster enough to get by without much trouble.

You can easily swing a weapon into your 40s but after that things tend to get more difficult for most people.

I tend to tell people to ignore spell aiming unless they plan to group hunt a lot or want to help fight during invasions.
