"We are pretty much leaning toward December 17th being Prime's auction and December 18th being Platinum's auction. This will mean it will be an all-day affair. You don't have much to worry about in Plat, more than likely. Historically, tons of stuff has gone super cheap in Plat auctions. It's a pretty safe bet that you won't get any of the top tier items that have been teased thus far, but a lot of stuff that isn't teased in advance and maybe doesn't have the most detailed information available at the auction could possibly available. It's pretty rare that anyone walks away from a Plat auction empty-handed unless they were holding out for a very specific item and didn't get it for some reason or another.

We will have someone in each tent. They will let people know when a new item comes up (because Physics...) and attempt to let people know when an item has a final bid and winner.

That way you don't risk missing anything trying to keep track of each tent. (because not everyone has two accounts, and, well, Physics!)

We're not going to try to paste in to the channel what is said about the item, life is too short. There will be someone or 4 documenting all the items for posterity (and the wiki) which was a great relief. I think we're already biting off a lot. Yep, makes perfect sense since the past few months I was using that 60 day free premium for several old accounts. You'll see those numbers jack back up again after the holidays are over and I switch back to full time F2P accounts.

Meaning there doesn't exist a SINGLE player who's actually using F2P for the means of directly playing the game (aka not as a support account). This should be a huge red flag.

Since you're here I have an unrelated question that has me puzzled. I was hunting nedum vereri the other day and I swung at one and took it's leg off at the knee but it didn't fall down. I looked at it and it said it didn't have any injuries. I attack again and got the same message, right leg taken off at the knee. I look and it still said no injuries.

Noone is playing F2P as F2P in Gemstone (you said yourself not a single character is trying to simulate "normal" Gemstone playability not.even.one.) DR is a completely different bucket of worms - in which it is actually playable as F2P; in GS this is not the case.

They are two very different games, but the absolute unplayability of GS f2p in terms of dollars needed to play compared to DR is what's perplexing to me. You can spend $6 bucks a month and play DR to 99% of sub levels while GS takes 20,25$+ to come close to simulating a basic sub. This is what's broken. I mean unless we're using two different types of maths, let's agree at this point.

I'm not entirely sure you understand how a F2P model works in a subscription game. The idea isn't to get people to use a F2P account, and spend oodles of money to get the same thing as a subscription. The idea is to have people play F2P and then CONVERT to a subscription, which Wyrom said he was pleased with the conversion rate.

Hello Everyone,

I am a returning player from way back (early 90's). Unfortunately, my account is not recoverable. :( Although, I made it past Legend (I think) I remember almost nothing of that period (including OOG aspects of my life too) so I'm thinking about starting over!

#1 First, my main question (not really pertaining to Sorcerers). How is the game doing? How's the population like? How's the company doing? And what's your take on the direction/longevity of the game. I know most of these are tough questions but would like to know before I invest anything into the game.

#2 Second, I'm thinking about leveling my way up to 20 before I sub-up and really start the game. There are 2 reasons for this. Number one, is to just get to know the state of the game and get myself back to working order (in terms of areas/maps etc.) and number 2 I don't see a reason to invest money (pay 40 bucks) when I can reasonably level to 20 (or so I've heard). I heard anything beyond 20 is extremely painful, and subbing up is good at that point.

#3 Main goal is to get back to level 50 (where I last started from).

So, with that being all said. What is the fastest route for me to take for leveling purposes as a sorcerer...

If SIMU HQ's goal is to draw people in with F2P and "convert" them to a sub. Then, and only then, I have nothing to say.

But DR is most definitely not on the same business strategy. I'm playing perfectly fine paying 6 bucks a month (EXP and EXP offline drain;the drain is actually a luxury and not needed) for DR and I reallocate the remaining "DR money" to Hollow's Eve and their version of DuskRuin, so it's clearly intended for you to participate in the game world and try to make the money back through events. Again, Wyrom you're right, I have no idea what exactly the finances look like so I'm just guessing. But to me, it just doesn't make sense. Then again, perhaps that's intended, who knows?

Finally, I think I've made a decision toward which game world I'm gonna head off to. I only have time for one game and god damn Gemstone is a great game! But, I'm getting more and more wrapped up in a particular (controversial) storyline in DR and just the more relaxed RP-oriented atmosphere of DragonRealms versus the more 'hardcore lust for power' GS has going will probably fit me more. Anyhow, a great game all around and will be greater under Wyrom's leadership!

My responses began because there was some injustice to a F2P account not getting access to the auction. And then some numbers were tossed out to spending habits. So I checked. I wanted to see if a F2P account, or even multiple F2P accounts, were buying volumes as suggested. But there was nothing to show for it. Because one of the items listed had 1 sale. One. In the last 90 days. Nothing had the volume suggested. Legitimate F2P users seems to convert to subscribers. It's out current player base that really use the F2P accounts as F2P accounts. They typically buy items with a Premium account for the bulk rate SimuCoins, and pass off items.

There's a Moon Mage on there who hasn't spent a dime on the store and has reached the soft cap (theoretical class cap) of 150 circles. Mind you, he just sat in Crossing Mage Tower and did research to level up but it's proof of concept. I know you're not the PM for DR, but maybe you guys chit-chat or have company meetings or something.

Gemstone is a solid MUD/text game and is the best in quality and interaction, you're buying mostly RL "official" interaction and a established, rarefied community. It's excellent. But Sub up if you're going to be serious about the game, the "F2P" isn't worth doing if you're staying here longer than a month. This is pretty much what everyone else was saying on these boards, but trying to go against the grain it's just not possible to play as F2P for too long. The restrictions are brutal and some can't even be lifted through the store. Even if you spend 20+ dollars a month to simulate a subbed account, you'll still not be able to fully unlock the game. Just how it is. Remember to have fun!
