View Full Version : Self Employment: Client Venting
seems that some of us are self employed:
This is a venting thread for all of us to complain about our 'problem' clients, if we have any.
This was inspired by Nieneque's 'Whad'ya reckon' thread

I have been self employed two times on what I call a major scale. The first business someone tried to sue me, they failed but it scared me enough to get out of that business. Second time I spent more time talking to lawyers about trying to regain money that was not paid for services rendered that I also closed that business down.
I am sticking to standing my horse at stud, and breeding field trial labrador retrievers, and chocolate parti schnauzers! That and the salon I am opening in the summer of 2005.

Probably the same reason you can sue for being a dumb ass and spilling coffee in your crotch!

:offtopic: If I got spilled with scalding coffee that gave me third degree burns, I think WHERE it spilled is irrelevant at that point. Sure having it tucked between her legs was stupid, but it STILL was way too fucking hot to consume.

For most small businesses settling out of court is way cheaper than the 5k retainer they'd have to pay a lawyer. There was actually a couple of lawyers in Cali recently who would look through the paper, find restaurants who has violated the health code, and bring suits against them immediately. They ended up getting hundreds of thousands of dollars because all the restaurants would rather throw 5k their way than spend at least that much on a lawyer and have to go to court. It's a fucked up legal system. That's what you get when you elect lawyers to make laws.

Yes, you are correct CT my point being you can sue and get <most> times money for being a dumb ass. Look at those who sued because they got cancer from smoking. Might as well sue for having shot yourself in the foot with your gun because they made bullets for that gun and that was dangerous.

or suing fast food restaurants for suffering the psychological damages you get from people making fun of you because you are fat after eating their food three times a day, every day for years.
