So, again I'm new but is Duskruin a repeating event every year like EG? If so when can we expect it again? Got burned hard with Delirium but willing to give it one last go at this particularly popular event!

Duskruin is now traditional Duskruin and Duskruin: Dig.
Dig begins next Friday but if you don't like gambling or Delerium Manor, it is the same RNG basis/digging.
Regular Duskruin was a few months ago and probably won't be again until sometime between Jan-March, maybe even April.
Here look at the patterns of a few recent runs yourself:

Hmm, again I didn't mind how Delirium was setup but after 200 dollars and a backpack full of junk; yeah I had some right to complain. It's the prizes; when you pay RL money directly (remember now a ton of new players don't soil their hands in the silvers for RL money market) you expect something decent or at least useful within a reasonable amount of turns. But, whatever, let's not open this can of worms again.
I'll give this DuskRuin dig a try (since Duskruin seems to be like EG as being the priemere event of it's class) and we'll see where the chips fall in the end.

You have no right to complain at a slot machine. Period.
Be clear, this is NOT Duskruin, this is the Duskruin Dig. Duskruin could be compared to EG, the DIG is just RNG luck.

Damn, now I'm confused which is the event that everybody says is totally freakin' awesome and all rush to buy tickets for? My goal is to get a medium (not auction or raffle) quality weapon within reasonable levels of investment, am I at the right place?

Duskruin (the Arena and the Sewers) is freaking awesome. The Dig (coming Dec 2), is awesome to the lucky few, and balls to the rest. But this will only be the second incarnation of The Dig, so perhaps they will make a few tweaks.

Oh wow, OK so there's really 3 different events under the banner of Duskruin; this is useful info. Hmm, OK guess I'll wait next year or throw only "a movie ticket" on this DR: Dig.

There are two.
Arena and Sewers are scrip producing aspects of normal Duskruin. Next run may be 3 of them.
Digging is a separate event.

The main/original Duskruin event(s) has Arena and Sewers, they have interchangeable entry tickets, provide Bloodscrip and random items. Arena will net more Bloodscrip per ticket, whereas the sewers will net more Bloodscrip per minute.
Duskruin Dig uses pickaxes for dig attempts, you will get gems and junk and a LITTLE bit of Bloodscrip for turnins (but really its a consolation prize, trying to earn enough Bloodscrip through the dig would be a poor investment in my opinion)
But, if the DR shops are open (I THINK they are) Then you could purchase Bloodscrip off somebody and go buy the DR weapon you are/were considering. BS goes for 600-1,000 silvers each, depending on a bunch of time sensitive factors in the moment.

This is like digging from EG using real money instead of silvers to buy pickaxes. Generally speaking, you'll get simucoin items for Tier 1-4 wins. This includes - 100 use gold rings, encumbrance charms, enhancive potions (gives you benefits of the enhancive for 30 minutes without using a charge). The non simucoin items generally are something like what DM dropped, usually selling well enough to the pawnshop so that some of your invest is earned back in silvers. You also find little amounts of blood scrip by turning in moonshards and now the newest generations of bloodrunes. The tier 5 hopper, if similiar to last time, is kept full, even if its drained they should (because they did last time) keep it flowing with items. Item quality is similiar to Tier 5/jackpot hoppers at EG, meaning there is low value (to players) items and 50-60m items mixed together. I'd imagine we'll see custom services like verbs, swears, maybe more rotflares or some other high value service in the "Jackpot" tier hopper if thats going to transfer over to DR dig.

sigh, thanks for this. Yeah, I guess I'll give it a whirl although every bone in my body says it'll be a giant waste of money. But... I need something to keep the holiday blues away... or would the blues come to me through GS this year?

You will regret it, 100% guaranteed. Go get some hookers and blow.

This is entirely subjective... For me ROI goes Duskruin Arena >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Duskruin Sewers >>>>>> Duskruin Dig >> Delirium Manor.
The arena can return massively if you're well equipped to knock out 250BS every ~3-4 minutes reliably. Once you hit that threshold, it's leaps and bounds better than anything else.
DR Dig has better rewards than DM had. I hit the jackpot and got a segment last DR Dig, and there are plenty of great items. One item that was found sold for like 90mil or 100mil from DR Dig (scroll folio or whatever). The Dig is not actually very "fun", but it has the potential to return some decent prizes.

yeah dig is very frustrating if you don't win anything. :) I would say it is third as well

I'll just echo the sentiment that dig isn't nearly the same return as the arena or the sewers. I loved it, and last time I got a 5x mace with unbalance flares and knockout flares that I adore. But I also love digging (because I'm insane). If I hated digging, I would've walked out annoyed with the whole thing. You earn very little bloodscrip comparatively. So just go in with eyes wide open on this one.

I would suggest that all of the slot machine pull games are a waste of time, if you value your time that is. Wasting money on top of time makes even less sense to me.
It's worth remembering that you are playing a game with a very high monthly charge, and that monthly charge is the largest revenue stream for the game, not extra events. Your expectations for value for your subscription should be in line with that, which is one of the reasons I'm very happy to see the auction coming around the corner.

As with any gambling, you need to set a threshold and stick to it. People who put $100 in their pocket, leave their credit cards at home, and go to a casino, get to enjoy the entertainment without the side-effects of being pulled into an overwhelming money pit.
I personally spend $0.00 on EVERY event (except EG entrance) because I use my in-game silvers to buy from people who want to convert their CASH into Silvers. This protects me from breaking my bank account because I am restricted by what I see as reasonable expenses for in-game activities. I've earned my silvers in-game, so I spend them on in-game events. This strategy has almost always paid out handsomely, but especially with DR (including Dig, but I am guessing I was just very lucky).

Yo fellas, super serious question. The moon pendant thingies (that are like the finished dolls from DM - in terms of prize value) , all they do is alter your look description? is that correct?

Alters your look and hides your inventory. It's a glamour crystal.
