ok, I'm watching this auction and it has just over an hour left, didnt have any bids, I look again like 15 minutes later and some bitch decided she wanted to place a bid, now I have to get into a bidding war.

This made me wonder about the other e-Bay habits people have. Do you bid whenever or wait until the last minute?

My bidding depends on how badly I want the item. Also it depends on whether I can be online at the time it is closing, I know what you mean though I lost plenty of items due to people bidding in the last seconds. DAMN them

Thats the good way to get an item cheap - Bid at the last second.

I wait last minute if possible.

I try not to snipe as much as possible, but if I REALLY want the item no holds barred! I am gonna sit there and refresh every second and bid war.

If I really want something I just bid high enough that no one else wants to bid on it. If it is already too damn expensive but I still want it I wait till last second.

What he said. Place your bid for what you'd be comfortable paying. If you don't win then at least you aren't paying more than you want.

Isn't that the entire point of proxy bidding an online auctions?

The way it should work is you place your maximum bid. You see someone beats you be by 10 bucks, and of course you think to yourself "I really want this, what is another 10 bucks"....but then you do it 5 times......DAMN YOU E-BAY!

What you're willing to pay vs what you really want to pay (lowest possible price).

I don't place proxy bids, it only serves to inflate the price early on and tip off other bidders that there is interest in said auction.

I use the sniper method every auction I'm interested in.

I will feel out a previous bid 5 minutes before the auction closes and will keep upping my bid if someone has a proxy in. If it goes up to the point where I no longer feel comfortable with the price, I stop bidding. The proxy bid gets screwed because they showed interest and no commitment, thus they pay more than they could have ... usually a few hundred more.

any GS item for sale that has a buy it now and a low minimum bid that will remove the buy it now price causes me to place the low minimum bid just to remove the buy it now

I use proxy, but was still outbid anyway. I only paid $30.00 more than I *wanted* to, but I still got it at a good price.

I wait till the last minute and sometimes last 30 seconds and bid the highest I'm willing to pay. It's worked everytime.
