I put ground zero at the center of Barksdale AFB and set to air burst. As long as the bomb is under 800kt I won't be burned. The largest bomb currently in the US Arsenal, 1.2 Megatons, will have me all full of third degree burns. A Tsar bomb, 100 megatons, would make me a shadow in the pavement. Radioactive fallout will push NE and away from me.

Groundburst from the 800 would be 20k dead/60k wounded, airburst 42k dead/113k wounded.

Tsar bomb is rated up to 100 but the test was 50. Either way, overkill weapons.

I luckily live and work just far enough from DC that unless its one of the larger ones, I'll be ok. And the fallout would go the opposite way.

Nah, they'd hit hundreds of places rather than one place hundreds of times. They want to wipe out our way of hitting them in the first strike. DC would probably be in that first strike too, but they want to hit nuke sites, SAC, major air force bases, NORAAD, and probably San Diego and Norfolk.
