It's interesting how these items were rereleased into the game. Instead of using them to benefit the community as a whole like making them a part of the Q4 auction or raffling them off, they were instead released to benefit a player who lost all right to the items by being perma-banned and permitted a couple of already established players to pad their own silver/item stashes.

No matter how you swing it, gear like this is going to wind up in the hands of the GS aristocracy one way or another. A public raffle or auction is merely a less-efficient systemic route to the same end result.

Also consider: the individual who wound up acquiring these very old items had knowledge enough about them to make a decision whereas others, including the previous owner, did not. While these may not be the Mona Lisa, stuff like this is art in rare form, and I for one am glad they are in safe hands.
