I just hit 40 and am looking for some advice on build strategies. I currently have 175 ptp's available. I'm not sure if I should be putting anything into lores at this point. I have a lot of enhansives to help with my low INT, but I don't want to be a pure ensorceller, I'd rather have that as a side thing for extra income.

Having recently returned only a couple of months ago, I am not an expert. However, I have done a lot of reading and have been helping my wife train her sorcerer. Here is my advice:
Get perception up to 1x level. It helps with manuever defense and that's really what kills a sorcerer isn't it?
If you have more extra points, you have these options:
- Fully 2x spell aiming for aiming limb disruption, balefire fun, using wizard wands, and focused imposion
- Fully 2x MIU and Arcane Symbols to be better at scroll infusion
- Extra spells...more CS is always a good thing for a sorcerer

I suggest 2x spell aim so you can do focused 708. However, this is all or nothing. Either do 2x or none. Do not 1x it.
Dont overtrain your sorcerer spells anymore, keep your sorcerer at Level +20. Diminishing returns means its not really worth taking it more than that until cap.
I like 1x perception.
Honestly, you should be fine even if you dont do spell aim, it just makes things much easier.

I did 1x spell aim til cap on both my sorcs, allows you to use 710 and 720 aimed effectively against like level creatures. I don't really understand the all or nothing mentality, as 720 works great at 1x spell aim. I wouldn't advise 2x as it's tp intensive and bolting isn't that great for sorcs anyways. I'd go 1x necro with maybe a few in demon lore if you have to, necro is waaaay better than demon, at least until they revamp some spells to make better use of it.

Hmm, that's interesting. There is a 220 post discussion on whirlin's sorcerer guide that recommends 2x or nothing:

I was just regurgitating what I read, I have no direct sorcerer experience so Luntz is likely to have more informed advice.
Don't listen to me at this point. Luntz says 1x worked for him, the guide says 2x or nothing. Decide for yourself what you want to do.

Most people seem to base the 2x spell aim off of being able to aim 708, I'm more concerned with being able to use 720 to blow something up in case of an emergency. If you can't live without aiming 708 and don't see yourself using implosion or focused maelstrom, go 0x spell aim and spend the points on necrolore/spell ranks. Then you can just use 709 and open 703 for locking things down, maybe open 710 combined with 709 when they swarm.

I love emergency swarm spells/abilities for any class, so you have a good point.
If 1x spell aim gets 720 working well then that is a good utility for a small amount of TPs.

Don't bother with spell aim unless you're going to duskruin. 710 and 720 aren't super essential at your train, and you can use 709 instead of 708 to disable just about everything. Get your necro lore up higher (1x is my preference because 730 and 735). Get 1x in perception.

At level 40 there is no reason to use 710, it takes too long to kill things and its too inconsistent to be used and a CC (410 and 709 take care of that).
720 is useful, but spell aim isnt needed for it. It will do what it needs to without it.
Being able to limb something is a much better use of spell aim as it lets you either prevent something from attacking/casting (removing right arm) or prevent maneuvers like charge (right leg).
I just dont see the point of 1x spell aim, id rather spend the points elsewhere.
Honestly, there really isnt a training plan outside of 3x spells that cant accommodate 2x spell aim if you want it.

The specific reason to not train spell aim is early on when you want to pump up your spell ranks, and it definitely doesn't fit in the build until closer to mid 50s. Another reason is so you can 2x in Arcane Symbols if you're really into scroll infusion for maximum scroll infusion success and duration to reduce the need to reuse infused scrolls. I loved having 2x AS for a while, but then I went back to 2x SA for duskruin (which is arguably the only place you really need it)
709 is mostly player friendly. Don't be afraid to use it. 9/10 it won't grab a player and now it's "nerfed" so that you can leave it running in a room and if you're not in the room it won't pull anything down. 709 is just as good at 708 most of the time. The only situation where it is lacking is against CS casters who will cast their pre-prepped spells while laying down, so just use 709 until you have the TPs for spell aim and can bother with 708.
At the same time your necro lore is greatly suffering. Sorcerers should really just 1x in lores, and make sure they have their necro lore to around 70% of their train. This gives you maximum damage with 711 more reliably, lets you animate targets of like-level, and helps you generate energy for 735 (which can start netting you big CASH the second you turn level 35 if you sell T1s for like 700k each on easy projects). It also improves 709, gives 702 some minor benefits, and other minor perks.
Beyond that your perception skill is lacking, and that will help with the plethora of maneuvers that start showing up in the 30s and 40s.

I've dumped mostly into Sorc Ranks and 1x'd everything else they've all said above too and have had no problems easily destroying things. I mostly 702 and 705 things with ease.
Toss in those arms to keep things busy dragged to the ground and it's easy pickings. Mine just turned 65 with about 95 Ranks in sorc, 38 in MnE and 35 in MnS I think...
Sorcs are just nasty warders and have a lot of fun spells to do so, so I don't see any need for SA other than the 1x Luntz mentioned....unless that is how you want to play your characrer. You can always fixskill your way out of whatever path you try.

What is it about spell aiming that is important for duskruin?
