If you had roughly 50 million silvers at your disposal, which would you invest in? Your weapon or your armor? Why? I'm a paladin.

Armor, dying is boring and tedious, who cares if takes two extra swings to kill something.

Having said that, for that amount you are talking something that is definitely on the high side of pretty damn good when you can buy 7X stuff for what, about 8 million now?

Here's the thing:

1. You don't buy expensive armor until you're fully trained. Wait until you can wear full plate, or you've gone as far down the armor training as you will for years - then buy your good armor.

2. Weapons are great if you're not going to risk losing it ever. Paladins have the perk of being able to use 1625 to imbed a spell into their weapon, and to make it plasma flaring with 1604. A lot of paladins go with a high-enchant perfect forged or fusion weapon that can take plasma flares (also fun to get bane on the weapon because it will still take plasma flares, but have the bane as well). Once you add weighting, you can't flare the weapon anymore with 1604. That's fine though. It's just an example of where gear for paladins is preference based.

Ah... 4x weapon for relatively cheap, board too. Train off penalties. Invest in 4x armor and get padded, lightened, etc as you go.

Not sure how old you paladin is, mine is mid 40's and he found his lifetime armor in a box a year or so ago and he is getting worked it on now, rolaren full plate, it is max light and 6X for now, will be taking it to 7X soon and then, well maybe padding, no idea what I want after that. But as Maerit said, for a paladin, if you can cast 1625, and fully bond to it, so really you need 29 spell ranks, then get your epic weapon, since it is almost impossible to lose it, and just be working on your final armor since you will be changing that a lot.

You use the weapon every five seconds; the armor only as often as you get hit. Which shouldnt be often.

Plus, no matter how awesome your armor is, it will never protect against everything you dont want to let stuff act on you in gemstone (for instance, you could have 30 points of critical padding, which might make you feel nigh undefeatable, until you get warded and crit padding does nothing against warding criticals...

That's an interesting perspective although a classic: offense is the best defense.

Personally I wouldn't stress over what to do with the silvers and I would give it to me instead.

If you're able to wear plate- prioritize your armor. If not, prioritize your weapon.

And don't think you need ultra expensive armor to survive. The 6x HDP plate that went out with Duskruin is fantastic and shouldn't cost you much.

I've got several weapons in the 100m+ range, but my armor is still only worth about 40m. And I never find myself thinking, "God I wish I had better armor". (And, frankly, I could get by just fine with my cheapest weapons)
