View Full Version : Trying to understand what I'm obviously not understanding (Armor +Lance RT)

Half Krol warrior (level 25)
81 ranks of armor training
Agi+Dex bonus = 49
If I wear augmented chain my RT on a lance swing is 6 seconds
If I wear a MBP (which is lighter by 10lbs) lance swing is now 9 seconds.
This is with no encumbrance on either swing...
So what part am I missing? or am I just somehow not understanding the armor training requirements for MBP and I'll be back down to 6 by 120 trainings in armor?
Or did I hose myself picking a lance as a Half Krol and need to liquidate and buy a fix potion and move to maul? So confusing....

You need to check for armor pieces on your body. Check for helmet, aventail, greaves. You may be forcing yourself up to the next AsG by accident.
You'll never swing it faster than 6, but it should be 6 if you are unencumbered. If you aren't encumbered or injured, the most common reason is something that you think is fluff is actually armor. Many people don't understand this, but if you are wearing MBP and you put a helmet on, BAM you are wearing full plate (as far as the AsG is concerned).

Thanks Khariz...was that...I'd tried on some aventails from the Dusk sewers to see if they had stats and left one on...didn't affect me in the chain but put me over on the breastplate...was making me so crazy I was overlooking the obvious.

Good to hear. I've made the same mistake.

The above post is probably the case, but the detail is slightly off. The only armor that covers your head is full coverage, do wearing a helmet with torso coverage will give you the penalties of full coverage. So a mbp plus helm equals full plate penalties.
General rule, never wear accessories unless you are in armor that covers the area. And ALWAYS wear the heaviest armor you have trained off, even if it "uncovers" certain bits
Another confusing bit is that mbp that only covers torso is as good or better than the previous AGs full coverage. Basically for defensive purposes treat uncovered armor bits as covered by the previous armor group. So mbp is torso covering while wearing full coverage chain

yeah, I said it backwards. Whoops. It has now been edited accordingly.
To be fair, it wasn't the point. It was obvious he was undertrained, whether he caused himself to be wearing full plate or half plate. It was the problem. Problem solved.

to be fair, the point is you were incorrect on your info. Just trying to be informative here, not sure why that bothers you.

Nobody said it bothered me. No assumptions please. I was merely explaining that the relevant fact to the question was that with 80 armor ranks, whether he was pushed to half or full plate AsG, he would have had the same issues.
You are correct that I was wrong, and I fixed my post (to be more generic, and less explanatory, so that your post could do the proper informing).

Upside is I have some nice greaves and a aventails to slap on top of my full plate when I eventually get there. And I'm wearing my MBP and swinging my lance at 6 again so all is well.

-The torso worn piece determines Damage Factors for every area of the body. These may or may not be lower (better) than the previous armor group's, but for rigid metal (plate) against physical weapons they pretty much are.
-If the torso worn armor does not "cover" an area, it receives the Crit Divisor of the previous armor group...
-...unless that area is covered by an armor accessory, in which case it will receive the Crit Divisor of the torso worn armor, but...
-...it will generate the worst possible penalties, so helm + torso = full coverage penalties even though the arms and legs still receive the Crit Divisor of the previous armor group, but...
-...if you're fully trained for the effective armor sub group penalties, are never encumbered, and like the accessory for whatever reason, you're not otherwise hurting yourself so go on ahead.

Except that you don't get the CvA or AvD improvements. There is also the encumbrance thing, max light fullplate gives you 37 extra carrying pounds and mbp only gives you like 12. Other armor groups are less sever on those and a bit more forgiving but still see the same issue.

If you don't get encumbered while hunting ever, you are either warcamping or doing it wrong.
