View Full Version : Anyone teach elementry school? or know somebody that does?
I had a idea last night talking with somebody and was wondering if anybody here might be able to help. I was thinking of starting a penpal program with the soldiers here. Most of us are headed to Iraq within a few months of graduation and letters are always welcome here. I was wondering if any of you perhaps were teachers or know people who are and might be willing to start a penpal program with a soldier.
If you do or you know people who might drop me a U2U

Middle school might be better. I know we did it from 6th and up when soldiers were deployed. None over here, it's their own fathers and mothers going and all.

hi there.
I am a teacher... Our kids have pen pals who are soldiers that live in our town. We have a few reserve units here in central PA.
Call your local elementary school. Explain who you are and whats going on. I am sure the principal will find you a class to"Adopt your unit"
They love doing that. And some of the kids may know some of you.
Its a great idea.
Our kids send letters once a week. PArents donate the money for packages.
The kids send cookies and snacks and toothpaste, sun screen and stuff we have been told soldiers over there need.
Your local elementary school would not be adverse to the idea.

well middle school too, I remember doing it during the first Iraq war when I was in 1st or second grade.
Anyone willing is a better way to put it :)

Perhaps elementary school might be a bit awkward.
Dear Mr. Soldier,
How are you? Is it hard over there? I learned my times tables today. All the way up to 9. Hope you are ok.

Dear Timmy,
I'm doing alright now. We were ambushed by a small group today that were turning our Hummer into swiss cheese. Grenades flying everywhere. Luckily we got out without any casualties - and we were able to nail most of the ambushers.
Oh, and good to hear you're learning your times tables.

::edited to say that my post is an obvious stab at humor and should be taken as such. I am not stating that (most) [all] soldiers would write a letter like the above to a young child.::

I wouldn't mind being a penpal to a soldier who doesn't really have anyone that writes to them. In fact I've been thinking about doing it, I just wasn't sure where to find the info.
Dave, if there is anyone you know that realy doesn't get a lot of correspondance and would like to have an adult penpal, I would be happy to help. U2U me and let me know what I can do.

She should tell them where glue comes from.
Anticor's post takes the cake.

My girl Lori is a 4th grade teacher. I feel for her. I'm sure she'd love to have her students do that. I'm actually going to her class to talk to them about my culture and do a traditional dance. The penpal thing sounds great for her kids. U2U me.
Edited, cos I didn't read all of your post.

I prefer to call it easy mac.
I'll keep an eye out for any of my family that have younger kids and ask them if theres any interest or if they are doing it in their classrooms.
