08-20-2016, 07:35 PM
Currently accepting silvers at current market rate. (CMR= $10/mil). Item can be delivered to any city on the main land without charge including FWI. Auction will go once, twice, last call and sold. Updated every 24 hours. Lowball bids will be ignored.
Up for Auction: 2016 Drama Runestaff
a slender variegated lor runestaff capped with a fist-shaped green eostone
5x, Self-Knowledge Mystic Focus (1711) +6 Stam Recovery / + 6 Mana Recovery - Runestaff
The first thing that strikes you about the runestaff is the weight, which is about 3 pounds. In your best estimation, it's worth about 43,000,000 silvers. You can also tell that the variegated lor runestaff is predominantly crafted of lor.
It has a bonus of +25 from a normal runestaff, and the way it vibrates in tune with your voice tells you that it requires skill in twohanded weapons to use effectively.
The runestaff resonates with your voice, indicating that it enhances its owner in the following ways:
Imparts knowledge of spell 1711.
It provides a bonus of 6 to Stamina Recovery.
It provides a bonus of 6 to Mana Recovery.
The runestaff looks to have almost innumerable charges remaining.
You sense that the variegated lor runestaff will persist after its last enhancive charge has been expended.
>inc 1711
Mirage-like distortions surround you as you prepare the Mystic Focus spell...
Your spell is ready.
You gesture.
A sudden clarity of thought comes over you, and you realize that you now understand arcane mysteries that were previously incomprehensible.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
(Forcing stance down to guarded)
>
[ Mystic Focus: +0:05:00, 0:04:59 remaining. ]
Like a faint wisp of a barely-remembered dream, your brief, enhanced comprehension of arcane mysteries slips away.
Mystic Focus: +10 CS, immune to spellburst. Also will not be stripped/dispelled in any self-spelled area. Non-stackable.
Minimum bid: 100 Million Silvers
Buyout: One Fiddy Meeelllllionnnsss
SOLD!!

You have some fucking balls of steel. Stupidly bid 120m at the live simucon auction and attempt to resell it within 24 hours? What was your sell price 500m?
Honestly, if you were bidding just to flip, let someone else have it. Especially at the Simucon auction.
Edit:
Looks like Arcane is immune to spellburst. Still a shit choice and a sad move.

You do realize that you lose self-knowledge if you put the Runestaff away. That's right. You just bid 120m silver for a spell that gives +10 CS and in the process gave up: Fusion runestaffs, acuity runestaff, nerve runestaff, etc etc etc. Good bye spellburst, self-spell only areas.

I don't think arcane spells count for spellburst. I am not sure about the self spell effects in the rift though.

GM Tamuz confirmed that Mystic Focus (1711) is an arcane spell and not affected by spellburst, spell strip, or self-spelled area. It is usable in any situation that one would use a heavy quartz orb.

Glamour crystals can remove a lot of assumptions people can make about a character based on appearance. They lend a little bit of mystery to the character.
It can also drive fashionistas crazy with curiosity as to what you're wearing. I don't remember who it was but there used to be someone who would whisper to me that she was bothered with curiosity about my outfits, LOL.

I'd much rather a series of concealers though. I spent far too much for Trader swag concealment in DR that didn't crush my whole outfit completely.
I understand the motivation for the concealers that have interesting forms. A lot of them were fairly silly for a long time though.

I agree with the first part of your statement. One of the objectives of the Simucon auction is to incentivize / reward those who make the pilgrimage to St Louis. Secondly, it's fun.
I don't have a problem with anyone going there for cheap items to resell later. Why? I did it last year. I won the cloak of shadows for 10mil and sold it for more than ten times that amount. I still had trouble parting with it because it's so badass and fit my character. In any case, it paid for my entire trip, flight/hotel/food/booze. So I basically got a free vacation out of it. Will everyone get that lucky? Doubtful, but the opportunity is there (or was there, not sure if the level of items were there this year). If that is what it takes to return SimuCon to previous glory, I really have no problem with that at all, and I doubt the GMs who run it do either.

This is an example of why the DR scrip shop is priced insanely. SIMU doesn't want players making money off their shit. If a few more people get it into their heads to try for a "free vacation", SIMU gets a whiff, and poof, no more cheap auction. Or account bound, or any number of other mechanics to combat this.

From what I saw, most of the GM's let players have the items they wanted. Estild for instance took one of the passed items that nobody else appeared to want.
It's not like the GM's took something from a player.

I don't think the GMs who took part in the auction had any advantage over the players, which is why no one had an issue with it. I know at least one GM had designed an item for the auction and didn't even know if it would be included (it wasn't). The items were completely described pre-auction, so there was no secret knowledge of properties in their possession. If they want to try and profit on a win post-auction like some of the players then I don't see a problem.
And if you want to score items, or bid up everyone else, come to Simucon next year. :)
Warriorbird
08-23-2016, 01:55 AM
I'm struggling to see what the problem is here. It'd be an issue if there wasn't full disclosure (Tsin style) about the item limitations but it turns out to be actually better than the critique.
If he sets a good price it should sell.

I don't recall them bidding on anything that was even approaching market value. I don't recall them bidding 10+ million for anything at all. No one lost out on an item because they couldn't afford to outbid a GM. They just didn't want it as much. The GM's are spending their own silver, same as the players.
Just a quick rundown of how it goes (this year) for those who haven't attended. We bother the GM's Wed night through Fri evening about whats going to be in the auction. They ignore us. Within an hour of the start of auction they hand out a list of the items by lot number. This list includes all the properties of the items. This year the list also included upfront minimum bids on some items. I believe this was actually a mistake and was supposed to serve as a hidden reserve like last years auction. Along with the 30 or so listed items they add some unlisted to the mix. This makes it more interesting and I think its in response to more people upgrading to auction tier at the con. Each person can only win one item. After that you cannot bid again. Doing so required everyone to take a drink in this year's drunk auction. There are also some free-for-all items that can be bid on by anyone, including non-auction tier attendees and chat members. The general trend is that everything goes for some pretty awesomely low prices other than a couple each year that draw in a few with deep pockets. Some of the free-for-all RP experience stuff can get fairly pricey if chat is allowed to bid as well. Much hilarity and drinking ensues, and by the end our auctioneer is slurring out bids and losing track of the auction order and it is fantastic.

Disturbing rumor about GMs "making money" by flipping items. on 08/23/2016 04:10 AM EDT
Hi,
First, there is _zero_ evidence about any GM wrong doing and I have no idea what happened at Simucon. However, Tservin was chatting about GM's making money by selling items. It's entirely possible that Tservin had no idea what he was talking, but I feel this needs to be discussed. It's out in the open now and it's leaving a bad taste in my mouth as well as a lot of others.
I really have no problem with GMs bidding on auctions or whatever, but there is always a risk of manipulation and I wonder if there is any checks in place. But seriously, I would like nothing more then for Wyrom to sweep in and say how utterly ridiculous this is.
The topic came up because Tservin/Blanks had been telling everyone he just goes to events to buy items and sell them for real $$.
[Merchant]-You: "wb tservin. i guess you werent kidding when you said you only show up for events so you can make money" (17:37:41)
[Merchant]-GSIV:Tservin: "Nope. I was quite up front about it at Simucon also." (17:38:05)
[Merchant]-GSIV:Tservin: "Oh. P.S. GMs don't care. They bid on items to make money too =)" (17:38:31)
[Merchant]-GSIV:Tservin: "You should pay closer attention to the Simucon auction list, you'll see GMs bought a few items and bidded =)" (17:39:27)
Thank you.
I wonder if they would ban him if we all collectively assist, email Wyrom and feedback that he's lessening the enjoyment of the game.

You would be banned 100x over for "overreacting". And I didn't delete my post, looks like it was pulled.

Tservin makes accusations that GMs are profiting off item sales and you DON'T want to discuss it?
GMs are players too. As long as they aren't using their GM powers to create items for their PCs there is no issue. Hell they already have a lot of restrictions on their PCs, like not being allowed to attend things like rtcf, ccf and other limited ticket events.

Self knowledge 1711 sounds pretty cool, until you see the price tag. Then you go back to your heavy charged orbs and start to not care that they're so heavy.

To the red rep "shitting on threads is considered poor form" go read through the 8 pages of garbage on this thread and give them all red rep for "shitting on the thread" at least my post was actually on the subject. Damn thread nazi.

Not sure you understand what that term means.

I'm not sure they know what it means, considering all I said was "hey, this runestaff makes me not care that quartz orbs are so heavy because they're cheap but self knowledge 1711 seems pretty cool."
The retardation level in this thread is seriously too high, even for Gemstone.

That's shitting on a sales thread. If someone is selling something, you don't post things to bring down the value of the item being sold. You bid on it or you don't.
