Approaching 35 levels, and I have figured out that I could sacrifice my 1x in perception to boost my MjE up to 535. I would still have all my other core skills, and would have every intention of regaining 1x perception over time. The thought is that having defensive 535 (and I have 25 ranks in air lore) would be a useful boon at these tender levels, but I am not sure how detrimental losing the perception ranks for probably the next 10 trains would be?

I've decided to move to Teras for the moment on my Warmage, and will probably stay out here for a while, so I am not sure the tertiary skills will be used much for anything other than bounties until my 50s when I will have to move off the island for better hunting options.

Other than some checks to find hidden things I don't think perception is going to be all that important at your level.

I'm not sure if perception is needed where you plan on hunting in Teras though.

At 35, I'll be fighting mostly Fire Giants, Lava Trolls, and Ash Hags with the occasional Mud Wasp. Sometimes I get a bounty for troll chieftains or fog beetles.

Hags and Giants can e-wave, and there are also RT inducing bursts of hot air in the area. Chieftains use tangleweed. Fog beetles have that poison mist. Lava Trolls tackle. I don't really see any success in avoiding any of these things despite my 1x perception. The only thing that has killed me so far is the tackle inducing 15s or more RT right before my sigil of major protection wears off, which makes me very squishy, prone, and in offensive stance... Died twice to that, but otherwise it's pretty easy hunting.

The wasp maneuver might be an issue because they do this thing where they attempt to sting you in your vulnerable spot, and you can avoid it (which probably uses perception), but if you don't then you start getting a stacking poison which can make you lethargic and eventually disable you completely. But it's easy to avoid when you fight them properly.

Once I get into the upper 30s, I'll start fighting Kiramon Workers, and Siren Lizards.

Low to mid 40s, I will have Kiramon Soldiers, Sand Devils, and Red Thraks...

Sounds like quite a bit of critter maneuvers in your area I wouldn't want to not have perception for... but I always found 50ish to be the real tipping point to where maneuvers are pretty much on everything you hunt. If you'd rather fast track 535 rather than 1x perception, whatever, go for it!
