Information is being released!
When: December
What: Silver only auction
Heck, just check Wyrom's post:
It's time to talk a little bit about the auction this year. Many of you are wondering ticket count/cost on this event.
This is a free event for our paid subscribers. There will be a tent for everyone to enter, and we'll also have a tent for Premium only. Yes, Platinum will see a version of this event as well. It will be a straight silver-only auction. The auction will be in December, but exact dates are TBD. F2P will need to upgrade to a paid subscription should they wish to participate and enter the tents.
The majority of the items auctioned will be brand new things, which we'll tease closer to the event. But you're not going to see a whole lot of items here that are from previous venues. A good chunk of items will be unique, one-of-a-kind heirlooms that you'll be the sole owner of (should you win something). We'll be announcing an item count, but we will not be going over every item before the auction. This is a nod to our old God Auctions of the 90s.
We're really excited about this auction, and I hope you are too.
Wyrom, PM

The deafening sound of silence is every person calculating in their head whether they have enough to make a go at the items or if they should just take advantage of the upcoming silver for sale drought.

The second silence is a few people getting ready to create 5-10 extra accounts just for more items.

It would take a pretty optimistic person to expect to be able to pay for that many items in silver.
The third silence is in the wooden floor, the rough splintering barrels, the weight of the black stone hearth and in the movement of a white linen cloth rubbing along the bar.

Do you think every item is going to go for 100+ million?

The fourth silence is the 99-percenters staring blankly at their computer screens trying to ascertain their excitement level.

With just about every item teased as being uniquely made I'd think more like 65m for the cheapest item where the properties aren't laid out in detail. I wasn't there for a lot of new releases but I'm picturing things like the tonis gloves/boots, the string, spell portfolios, animate rattle, gem chisel, familiar instruments. You bet 65m and hope it turns out as useful/cool as the above items did.
I wonder what kinda gear they're going to auction off. High numbers for enchant/padding/resistance are great and all but it feels as if they'd have tried to go another route with this auction. New versions of sentient weapons or new scripted armor like voln or ithzir?

Taking a contrary point of view: it's hard to come up with enough unique high end items in the 65+ million price range, and if you are auctioning roughly 1 item per active account, I think you'll have a very broad range, from say 5 mil to 450 mil. It would be less but there's a huge supply of silvers out there.
The most recent EG silver auction had items that sold for less than 1m. However:
A. It was awhile ago, there were less silvers out there. It was before Droughtman which stupidly increased in-game silver quantities.
B. Tickets were limited, and wins were 1 per account.
There could be 800 accounts at these auctions. You'll find less in the premium tent, depending on what sort of backdating they use, but still. They aren't likely to have 800 uniquely made items.
If we go back further, which they said they are being inspired by, we can look at the tent auction, the source of my scroll book and other marvels. This auction they did things like police silver transfers prior to rather than limit it by account, they also had tents setup by age group. Many items sold for less than 1m (of course, there were way way way way way fewer silvers back then). I personally recall bidding around 1m on a poorly described flask that ended up being 40 swigs of invisibility (yay!). So also the items weren't that great. So while there were some neat items from that auction, there were a lot of duds too.
I bet you they do something similar here, wanting to include more people, they will have items that many would consider not great. These items aren't likely to sell for as much. Unique != powerful afterall. A scripted kilt would be unique.
But there will of course be the amazeballs things.
I personally am curious if they'll release any "make your current stuff better" certificates. If not I'm not sure what I'll go in for.

Yes.
So basically only 16 people will buy items? (fake number, but still, how many people in the game are really 100+ mill bank holders)

I'm constantly seeing people I've never heard of buy shit for over 100m. So I would say a surprising number. Ask tillmen to code some spyware into ;banks and get us a statistic

Look at it this way. Higher number of people available to come to the auction means bids being driven higher, obviously, as has been said. But it also means that much more overall silver being taken out of the system. While it's not the be all end all of inflation killers, it certainly has the potential to help.
If the auction contains 20 items and let's say that all 20 get pushed to the 50 million silver mark, that's 1 billion silvers poofgone from circulation. Even if I don't win a single item (I won't), that suits me just fine.

Pretty sad that the first thing some people want to do after a terrorist attack is mock liberals.

This is what I am saying, EVERY item won't be 100M to get, simply because not every player HAS 100 mill. I wouldn't even say an average of 65, unless you take into account the insane far end ones that may go for 500-1Bill. Oddities like that shouldn't skew the average of an unlimited crystal amulet to 65 mill...
Unless there is only like 100 items, and they are all super OMG amazeballs, Most people will not have to pay close to 100 mill for their item.

Honestly, go take a look at the last bloodscrip auction. Items went for 20-65m with self-mana monk spell(20?) going for 90m? and the teleport item for 125m.
People aren't going to drop silvers or bid on things they don't think are worth the value.

I could see them fairly easily coming up with 100 items that each did 100m+ If has to be more of a willingness to release that much booty, than an inability to do so.

Yes, they could easily do it... but 100+ Unique items? Much harder, not to mention, I haven't seen Wyrom say anywhere that this is an Auction for the uber rich only. Granted, Simu doesn't exactly control, or set the price on things at auctions, but they certainly have a decent idea what say... 10x MCP armor with +50 resistance stat would go for before making 6 sets with different resistances before making them for the auction. I am sure they get surprised with some things... but mechanical things I don't think so as much.
Wyrom isn't stupid, neither is SIMU. While they may love the idea of releasing say 250 items and getting 100+ mill for each.. they know that would really piss off the average player. "Here is a free event... but sorry, most of you can't participate because we only made things for the Rich". Yeah.. not likely to happen. I wouldn't be surprised to see the core of items stuff that people would value at 50Mill tho. Course.. people are competitive and insane.. so even an item like those before that sell for 50 mill on the PC could hit 100 Mill.

Don't worry. I'm already formulating a plan so we can mug Ardwen just before the start of the auction. We'll have a giantman turn him over and all the silver will fall out. It'll be like a pinata for the 1%. And then we'll all split up the loot evenly, and we'll all be RICH

Pfft. Like Ardwen carries Silver. He just sends a runner to His bank.. I mean the Bank and they bring it back for him.
Didn't you know that's how he got rich? The note fees get deposited into his account.

That's actually a good idea. They should have pinatas. Charge something like 250k-1mil depending on what's in it. You restrict the number of people in the room with the pinata so everyone gets something. That would be fun.

There are Pinatas in the game. They are crap really, but they are in the game. heck, I think I have a locker full of them somewhere.

There really is only one Bank. He Just created the Myth of multiple banks so he can charge extra to exchange notes.
