What's the conventional wisdom these days with armor training?

I'm currently sitting in MBP, but I did that way back before the CMAN/armor/shield system existed. There seem to be a lot more skills now that revolve around hiding (e.g. vanish, sneak armor, etc.), and I was wondering if the conventional wisdom on going up to plate on rogues had changed.

Follow up -- if folks stay in plate, is it worth getting vanish and other like skills? Or would I be better served getting more combat oriented ones. I have to say I've gotten pretty used to plate, and the thought of switching back down to brig or something is scary. No matter how much hiding you have, you're going to get caught at some point...

Just wanted to see what people thought before I used a fixskills up.

This is all from the perspective of someone who prefers heavier armors.

I finally dropped from mbp to hauberk as I had a nice 7x set(no padding). I am about 2x cap though. In any case, I've seen nothing but good things. At 3x dodge and my own spells, I haven't really had a problem getting hit. When I do get hit in my hauberk, it's still not a big deal. I still use armored evasion as it gets the most benefit when in chain armor. The lower spell hindrance is great.

Playing as a rogue in mbp for so much time, I never picked up vanish. I hunt in the Rift and hiding can be difficult already. Since it's harder to hide with vanish, that doesn't seem worth it to me. I'd recommend picking up cmans for defense against the maneuvers you generally see in your hunting ground. Just grab 2-3 ranks so it's still cheap. Swap them out as needed.

I think until you get far enough into post cap exp that plate armor is the way to go. I think the majority of rogues still use or aim to use metal breastplate. Lighter armor does present some perks that they didn't have before but I don't think they balance out against the CvA and DF of plate armor.

I've been using my chain hauberk armor for a long time and never really was motivated to go to plate armor. Between my hiding and ambush skills, use of vanish and armor evasion, I've done fine.

I should point out that I don't hunt too much in the Rift, if I did that might have changed my training approach.
