Man, is it just me that is bothered by this?

I hate seeing these ub3r overweight people walking around (that couldn't pass a PT test if their life depended on it) wearing Army PTs. They obviously arn't in the Army. They look like hippies with their long air. They are about 300 lbs overweight and wear jeans with the t-shirt. Seriously.. WTF?!?!? I don't walk around in my normal gym clothes.. STOP YOU LOOK WEIRD.

I'm not into camo as a fashion trend in general. You see people walking around the mall in camo shirts, pants, whatever, and no matter what shape they're in I wanna be like, "OMG I can't see you, where are you?!?"

Or, wait. Are PTs the gray shorts/tshirts that just say "ARMY" on them? Yeah, that's stupid too, especially if they're not IN the army. You wouldn't wear the letters of a sorority you weren't in, would you?

I have a USAF jogging t-shirt. But I don't wear it. All you can see on it is the SA on the front because of my boobage. :(

I don't think he's talking about camoflage. I never minded the fad too much, and even bought some pants that are camo (just like my heroine and role model). However, I did see some camo boxers once, and I think we can all agree that's going a little too far.

It's for disguise in the bedroom, in case you're hiding from someone scary.

I wore camo pants my senior year of high school, because all seniors did on spirit days (long story). Otherwise, it's a purely funcitonal fabric that doesn't make much sense in suburbia.

Oh don't get me started. I HATE the camo crap thats out. Like camo purses, shoes, mini skirts. Hello?? this doesn't even look good! I don't mind the grey t-shirts that say ARMY on them, maybe they're proud a loved one is in the army. Thats okay with me, but the camo fashion is just tacky, unless you are hiding from snipers.

I'd rather see that than the numerous Navy guys and girls walking around in their black coats and white hats. I see this mainly up in the burbs where the base is when I'm going to the mall. The Navy hat is cute, but its not that cute to be walking around with a misshaped paper boat on your head when not on duty.

Not fat people in Army PTs. I mean people in general wearing PTs in public. You just don't wear that shit when you are walking around off duty (I understand if you're stepping out off base real quick for an errand or whatever) or even worse, people that wear Army PTs that arn't even in the Army. FUCKING STUPID. I don't care about the camo shit, it's a fad that's been out, but the PTs piss me off.

THe reason I used fat people is that ub3r fat people are not in the Army.. Well, not usually at least.

Okay, getting a bit off topic here, but since it's all about t-shirt fashion, I was watching "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" again on satellite last night and had to throw this in.

Johnny Depp's character is wearing F-ed up shirts...and I'm not sure how obvious it's meant to be, so it's kinda suttle humor. For example, he's barging in on the room of his hottie (X partner, or love interest?) who is pissed at him, and threatening to shoot him, and the shirt he has on under an unbuttoned button-up is one of those "I'm with stupid" shirts...okay, in rl they are totally played out, but it was funny as hell in his setting. The best one though is the one he wore to the bull fight...he's a fricken rogue CIA agent, and he's at the bull fight cutting scandalous deals with shady characters wearing a T that says "C.I.A." big as hell right on the front. If I was gonna be a drug dealer, seeing that movie, I would have to wear a shirt all the time that says "NARC". Though, I might not last long in the biz that way.

Johnny Depp's character is the best part of that movie. His shirts were obviously a way of saying that he doesn't give a shit what anyone thinks and probably thinks that he's too good to get smited for his actions anyway.

However if you saw someone wearing a NARC t-shirt, would you really think he was seriously advertising himself, or just being a smartass? :D

omg I love dealing with marines who do this. More IV sticking experience for me.

I met a couple at lejeune who were in top shape, but once did something incredibly stupid, but hilarious, during a PFA(or PFT, whatever it is in the marines). About 3-400 yards short of the end of the 3 mile run, in which they'd be minutes ahead of everyone, the three of them would stop, light up a cigarette, and finish the run smoking.

mostly because those you see wearing their blues through chicago are still going through after-boot-camp training/just graduated boot camp, and are only allowed to leave base in dress uniform.

and we have two dress uniforms. I prefer dress blues over dress whites.

Though something is now in the works for all the navy. They're going to get rid of most of our uniforms, and replace them with camo's....

Well that depends, I do a 4-6 mile run on a regular basis here for PT(with an optional 12 mile run saturday mornings). Depending which sergeant takes our group out, since none of our Drills can keep up with the few that enjoy running.

2min of pushups, 2 min of situps, and a 2mile run. Does the job if you push yourself.

It was someone else's long before you were born, and it will be someone's long after your dead. Remember who you serve. Not you. If it's legal in these United States of America, your protecting those rights in essence. If you put that much pride into an icon, to the point it alienates the very citizens it serves, then you really need to rethink your priorities.

It's fucked up. In BCT I had the most uptight platoon and had the fear of God instilled in them from our Drill Sergeants. Everyone ratted everyone out out of fear of getting smoked. There were two groups. "The Narcs" and the "Good Guys". The "Good Guys" did stupid shit, but got by. "The Narcs" were all afraid. It's because of this that we consistantly finished last in EVERYTHING.

Like the DI wanna be's said, it is against regs to go walking around in your PTs and BDUs outside of post under most circumstances. I have been called on it and counciled many a time for it, and will be many more times in the future.

Whenever I am not working I am in PTs. That being said, If I am in my PTs and I want to go off post, I will be damned if I will go all the way back to my barracks and change just to do so. I'll take the risk that some terrorist might try to grab me and lop off my head.

As for civilians wearing Armed Forces gear? Like the others said, thats just free entertainment. Nothing makes me laugh more than seeing a goth all dressed up in old Class A's.

I've a gambit of Ts.

I've got a healthy stock of Army PTs from my brothers, I've got some navy gear from my sis's 8 year stint, I've got some "Bush lied, people died" Ts, I've got a few BFC and F9-11 Ts as well.

As tough as most military folk like to pretend to be, none have had the nads to speak up when I'm wearing an Army PT top in public.

If you don't like what I wear, speak up and try to take it off of me, I'll hand your ass back to you in pieces.

It doesn't matter what the person's weight is, if it bothers you so much ... go find a fucking identity and solve your issue.

I look at it this way, if your whole identity is wrapped up in what people wear in conjunction with your affiliation, you need a reality check.

Why not bitch about people that wear sports jerseys yet aren't athletes of the clubs they advertise?

Why not bitch about people wearing college shirts of schools they don't attend?

Why not bitch about people that wear comic/movie/game/fandom shirts of things that they themselves are not in?

It's a though process that is ignorant beyond words.

Tsa'ah a lot of people look at the army uniform (any military uniform for that matter) as something you need to earn the right to wear.

Tsa`ah
11-30-2004, 08:52 AM
And the "lot" of people's opinion matters in what way?

You would have a valid argument if someone were walking around in a recognized uniform, sporting dog tags, patches, medals and rank insignias ... but we're talking about PTs.

It's not any different than wearing a Bear's jersey or Harvard T.

Like I said, find an identity and find a real issue.

[Edited to add]

Right to wear PTs? The only thing you did to earn the "right" is go to basic. We're not talking about a Navy Seal pin or SF badge here, we're talking about something that says ARMY on it.

I'm in agreement with the concept that a tshirt saying "ARMY" (or whatever branch you choose) is not an insult (unless you're claiming to be something you're not, then you're just an idiot). I also view it as a sign of moral support.

Now the formal uniforms, medals, what have you? Different.

I can see the shops making shitloads of money selling those simple grey shirts with a tiny little yellow ribbon pictured at the bottom, or on the back just below the neck. The "support our troops" magnetic ribbons seem to be on half the cars out there.

Often you are required to wear your Dress Uniform when you go off base. I rarely see army guys wearing their uniforms off base, come to think of it, not at all. I know the soldiers receive discounts on certain services while wearing their uniform but why would you be required to wear full dress to the mall or anywhere else while on leave?

It depends on what area you are in. If you are around a base that has AIT, you will see people in Class B's or class A's off post because they are not allowed to wear civilian clothes yet. In the area where I am it is very common to see it. I also when I go on leave have to travel from and return to Ft. Huachuca in Class A's because that is what we are ordered to do. It depends on your command and what they want.

I wore a camo jacket. I still have it, though it's up at my mom's house. It's got patches from all the different Air Force bases, training camps, and teams I participated in and went to when I was in ROTC. I also own camo pants and a hat, but only because I wore the entire camo outfit when we would play war games in the woods. At the time, though, my hair was a fire-engine red... and it would not all fit under my hat... so I was basically screwed. I ended up duct taped to a tree the entire day one day. Never had to pee so bad in my life.

Yea, I usually don't even really try on my PT test except for my run. I freely admit that I suck at distances and have to work hard to maintain my 100 pts in that event. I'm deadly over short distances though.

My specialty is rucking. It's tradition in my PLT for the new Lt's to do at least a 20k "at roger's pace" It's so fucking funny because every new LT has their air of superiority only to then to have it deflate so fast as they get walked into the ground.

We're talking about PTs, not a uniform. I could not care less about patches and uniforms, what your job is and why you don't have a patch.

If one gets upset about civilians of any physical stature wearing PTs, then one/you have an issue to be resolved. The only thing one has to do in order to "earn" PTs is enlist. That's it.

PTs are sold at surplus stores and a number of different outlets available to civilians.

The "right" to wear PTs is nothing more than having PTs available.

When we go into uniform, that becomes a different issue as a civilian is not likely to have earned the ranks and other decor that a uniform sports.

Yet you indicated "fat" people and Army PTs. I highly doubt the attempt is to set a fashion trend.

Comfortable clothes are comfortable clothes. When people dress for comfort, it's not usually with fashion in mind, let alone what the shirt says.
