How fast does a weapon return after being hurled?

If it is anything like how long it takes to fly back after being disarmed, it is not very fast. 5-10 seconds maybe.

Like 5-10 seconds or so. It's fairly slow. If you need a more concrete number, let me know.

Closer to 5 than 10.

I am wondering if it is a reliable way around the lack of returner weapons.

It's not.

Definitely is not. A returner is instantaneous. 1625 has a pause during which anything can happen that can interrupt the return, such as the weapon could be hurled and get stuck in a creature but the creature leaves the room before the weapon can come back.

My buddy hunts by hurling a bonded handaxe and does just fine. He carries two extra 4x ones in his sheath in case things hit the fan, which has yet to happen in the 4 levels since he's bonded.

It's not a returner but you'll only get in trouble on weird edge cases. When I hunt with him, he has to hold back to avoid killing crap too quickly.

This is only through L31 or so, but it's on F2Ps so that's a lot of hunting.

Imagine what it would be like if his attacks took 3 seconds each, instead of 6-8 seconds to attack and then wait for the return that may or may not happen. That's the difference between a returner and trying to use bonding to achieve something similar. Your friend is getting some nice melee defense bypass though, and doesn't have to use as many setup maneuvers, so that is a plus.

That would drive me up the wall with how slow that is. If he has to hold back to avoid killing too fast, that is likely more due to CM/ambush than the viability of hurling with a bonded weapon.

We carry backup weapons in the case shit hits the fan, but it literally never has.

Paladin AS + hurled handaxe at head kills stuff quickly.

I could see how it would work in a group hunting scenario. If it's entertaining, go for it. That's why we're all here.
