So I got a 2Her warmage to 15 (unfortunately wasn't paying attention and no longer can fixstat/skills). I'm really struggling with it at the moment. It seems that when I go hunt, I can only kill 2-3 critters before I have to return to rest and get mana and these critters are around 5 levels lower than my own (things higher crushed me unless I'm fully spelled). Currently wall guardians in thurfel's. Can do silverbacks but usually run out of mana before killing any.

I'm using a 3x heavily crit weighted battle axe (I had planned on using polearms but, whoops). I usually open with 909 and try to get a swing in when they fall. Most of the time, Im not able to kill before it wears off or they run, necessitating a further cast.

My current skills and stats:

Armor Use..........................| 66 14
Combat Maneuvers..............| 70 15
Two-Handed Weapons..........| 70 15
Physical Fitness...................| 70 15
Harness Power....................| 70 15
Elemental Mana Control........| 70 15
Elemental Lore - Air.............| 70 15
Perception..........................| 70 15
Climbing.............................| 30 6

Spell Lists
Major Elemental....................| 11

Spell Lists
Minor Elemental....................| 7

Spell Lists
Wizard.................................| 13

Strength (STR): 81 (15)
Constitution (CON): 63 (6)
Dexterity (DEX): 77 (23)
Agility (AGI): 75 (17)
Discipline (DIS): 63 (1)
Aura (AUR): 77 (18)
Logic (LOG): 77 (13)
Intuition (INT): 67 (8)
Wisdom (WIS): 65 (7)

Is it the way I'm hunting? Keep in mind, I'm still quite the GS noob. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

Can't help with training specifically but can offer some hunting grounds. Swamp trolls are 14 on trail to sol haven and have about a 9 second RT and happen to stun very easily. If you dance should be able to handle them easily.

Wraiths in landing although no stuns should serve to be good fodder with a simple 4x bless as well.

With 2h at low level I think part of it is picking what to fight, and those were my go to kills, my currently open aim ranger is hunting trolls and just waits for a swing and then it's off to the races. Even if you get caught in rt they don't tend to waste you (although I ramped into brig)

yeah, there are similar things near IMT. Im trying to get into leather BP asap. Think i'll stop there though. The issue is I'll only get about one swing in per RT (even with them slow slow ogres) so I have to end the hunt early because of mana/health issues. If im lucky, 2-3 kills. Was only wondering if there was something I was doing wrong.

I'm no expert, but the Mentors are hosting a Warmage event on July 31, at 9 p.m. Eastern. If you can make it, there will be experts!

I think I have that day off!

I'll chime in with some thoughts (FYI, I have a level 38 pure wizard but I swung a two-hander for my first 30 days or more. I think I switched to pure at around level 25.)

I understand wanting to knock critters down, but tremors seems to be a pretty high mana spell to use much at level 15. As a pure at level 25, I was almost always just spamming 901 so I could fry on a hunt and not have to run back to town.

Are you not able to kill things without knocking them down? I think that's going to be a serious issue going forward if you have to depend on a knockdown in order to hunt.

It seems like most of the spells you already know, plus the addition of attending a Dreavening (in the Landing of course) would give you enough DS without having to worry too much.

Also, after your first 30 days is up, you are left with one FIXSKILL intact. You can double check this by using the FIXSKILL verb. If you've still got it available, you'll get a long message about making sure you've aligned your training points the way you want them before typing FIXSKILL again. In that case, you could re-allocate your skills to still do polearms. If you don't have one available, the message will say you've already used it or something of that nature.

Also, have you checked out Whirlins Wizard Guide? It breaks down several different types of wizard builds and what you should train in to be effective: http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?79515-Pure-Archer-Mage-amp-Warmage-Information

Make sure you're keeping 902 invoked on your weapon. That's a good bit of AS.

At that level range, you're likely not going to be able to hunt in Offensive stance... Consider stancing down while hunting... Critters just have very high AS compared to their DS until about 30ish

At that level, an opener should not be necessary for hunting. Let alone 909, a very expensive opener meant for multiple targets.

Two areas of concern: You're undertained and overspending TP on a level by level basis... Consider stopping at Double Leather (15 ranks). At level 15, you should have 16 ranks in everything (except harness power), and training towards your 17th rank.
You also are not trained in spell aiming. With 513's penalty on melee AS removed, your best single target opener will be 505 once you hit 20 ranks of air lore.

I would recommend stopping Combat Maneuvers on the short term to get up to 2x spell aiming, and to get on level with your training. Get MjE up to 13, and then invest heavily into MnE to unlock 425/430 (seems like you already started doing). Also make sure you know how much air lore you need for that weapon.

Subjectively, consider a 1x weapon. A well-forged mithril piece would likely be cheap as hell, and offer a forging bonus. At 25 ranks of Air lore, if you decide to attune air, you'll be able to e-blade that up to 5x flaring.

These tips are very helpful. Currently using a claidhmore (dont think 902 works on it) but will be switching to a 1x weapon once 25. Will drop Cman for now to get spell aiming but ill have to potter about a few levels until this can happen i think.

Current plan was based on whirlin's guide so appreaciate the added advice!

Definitly come to the WarMage meet and greet on July 31st at 9pm EST. I wouldnt worry about having to need a spellup to hunt because your not going to be effected by spell burst for the most part. Aside from hunting in the rift where you can only wear spell you know, You will be able to hunt everywhere with a large number of outside spell. I would also recommend training in arcane symbols and magic item use, so you can utilize spells to boost your AS. Spells such as Bravery and Heroism. What is your character's Race? Also always have a small statue handy to use for a DS boost.

You swing a claidhmore at a kobold!
AS: +149 vs DS: +24 with AvD: +35 + d100 roll: +73 = +233
... and hit for 98 points of damage!
Spectacular slash!
The kobold's left arm is neatly amputated!
The kobold's wooden shield falls to the ground.
The kobold crumples to a heap on the ground and dies.
Roundtime: forever sec.

>902
[voodoo]>incant 902
You trace a series of glowing runes while chanting the phrase for Minor Elemental Edge...
Your spell is ready.
You gesture.
A bright glow forms around your claidhmore for a moment, then seems to seep into the weapon, giving it an inner glow.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

You swing a claidhmore at a kobold!
AS: +161 vs DS: +40 with AvD: +35 + d100 roll: +25 = +181
... and hit for 53 points of damage!
Eye crushed by a hard blow to the face!
The kobold crumples to a heap on the ground and dies.
Your claidhmore fades some.
Roundtime: forever, again sec.

Try things before discounting them.

Your claidhmore glows brightly for a moment, but the glow becomes dull and fades.

Are there any scrolls available to read from the war mage meet and greet?

Things were relatively quiet during the meeting and greet... Sentral and I exchanged notes for a while, I identified a lot of the changes to warmages as a result of the ELR, and the training implications... Mild disagreement, but understanding arguments from both sides.

If you have any particular questions, probably best just to ask them again here, I'm sure others have the same question.

Was fairly disappointed to miss the meet and greet. Sadly, I live in the UK so was far too late in the night for me with an 8am start. The notes above have helped tremendously and the teens have flown by since. Going into the dredge of low 20s for IMT (which I remember on my ranger as being awful [pinefar and all]). Still working on making up the grounds for bolting so undead arent a viable option for the moment. What did others do here?

Are you stuck in Icemule? Vaalor is nice for low 20's warmaging.
